I have a seagate external HDD 500Gigs, works just fine. I can't really tell you which ones are better but seagate works perfectly for me (PS3 Games & normal usage).

I have a LaCie 2tb External with 1.5tb Fat 32 partition and I do not have lag problems. I always recommend LaCie because everyone I know who has one abuses the hell out of them and they continue to perform plus they look nice which is an added bonus. I use the following: http://www.amazon.com/LaCie-External...9582384&sr=8-3

The only instance in which I imagine lag becomes an issue is when using an external that does not have it's own power supply. I imagine the additional strain on the PS3 to power the external can cause lag.

Samsung 1.5 TB (3.5") with external power. Works perfect also

@Señor_Striatum . I have a lacie (Porche design) and it didn't work anymore. Connected the drive without housing to my PC and drive works 100%. Problem with the electronics inside the housing. There are more complains about this problem with my model. No more expensive lacie for me

I use verbatim because of 7 year warranty. 1tb 5400 rpm I've noticed lag with some games but even on internal so I don't think it's the hdd's fault.

I have a WD 1TB and works very well.

FAT32 is better because it's an easier filesystem for the PS3 console to read.
