I used a spray paint called 'Plasticaot' Its just a standard plastic paint comes in spray cans costing about 8-10euro. I sanded first yes, using a high grade sand paper (400) Then a coat of plastic primer Followed by a few coats of paint (sanding between each coat) And last I used a clear lacquer to put a shine on it. For the flip paint (pearlesent) ps3 and xbox the paint was for a car. but same steps as above (lacquer is essential with flip). Although for one spray can of flip cost me 80euro.

You could add a thermal monitoring and management system to it. If you are really up for some coding, you could make a standalone version of DIYPS3Controller and flush-mount a touchscreen in the top of the PS3 to control it.
