Hello everyone,
(MAIN QUESTION IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ THE WHOLE POST) Is it better for my Blu-Ray drive that there is always a game inserted in it or that i insert a game in it just when i need it ? I bought my 40 GB PS3 maybe 8-9 months ago, it had CFW at that time, and everything was working excellent. There was a Blu-Ray game inside the tray everytime but one day my blu-ray just stopped working, it was strange, when i inserted a disc in the loading icon started spinning but nothing happened. Right now i wanted to try it again after a few months, so i started my PS3 inserted a game, and again the icon spinning but nothing more, then i ejected the disc and inserted it again, and whoa, gues what IT'S WORKING :D I started the game and everything seems just fine, i then ejected the disc again to try it again and it loads it again normal :D I think that it maybe is at the dieing phase so i want just to ask, is it better for my Blu-Ray drive that there is always a game inserted in it or that i insert a game in it just when i need it ? Please someone answer me fast, because i wan't to do the best for it so that it lasts longer, till now i have no games that require a game in the tray but now i have plans to buy games that i couldn't play before :D

Keeping the disc in it means less wear on the mechanism that sucks it in. The disc may also block dust from falling onto the laser, though that is probably highly unlikely to happen.
Also: The 60/20gb models are not even 7 years old yet (about to be 6 in November). I am guessing you mean months. It's not the inserting and taking out that breaks the laser, it is actually reading the discs that does that.

LOL, yeah i mean 7-8 MONTHS not years xD
And thanks for the asnwer, but i am afraid to leave the disc in because if itßs in everytime my PS3 starts it will load the disc, and that means that it will use the laser and everything so that i think it will get defect again sooner so, but if you think so then i will do that

When I'm finished gaming, I tend to go to the game's menu, then press Home button, quit game from there, eject disc from PS3 (triangle>eject) and power off.
I had your same issue...I'd suggest doing what I did but faster...it took me about 1 year to finally give up Just buy a bluray laser or deck. It can be a bit tedious installing it, but it's fun and well, your bluray will work. Here's 2 places you can get it from: http://www.thegamersfix.com/home.php?cat=258 http://www.amazon.com/Playstation-Co...8982377&sr=8-1 Video: PS3 Blu-Ray Drive Laser Replacement Tutorial - ConsoleZombie.com - YouTube PS: The second link is for PS3 Slim ONLY. You can find a table online of what laser model each system has; but I would go the safe way and open up your PS3 and check yourself (remove the deck and check the label on it's underside...) Good luck and, any questions, please feel free to ask. I'm no expert but, I'll try my best
