Should I give up and update? - PS3Hax Network

I've been waiting for CFW forever (am at 3.61 OFW) and, since I finally repaired my PS3 laser, I want to play Red Dead Redemption with my friends online..

Is there any word at ALL about how much 3.61 or higher CFW will take?

In you guy's opinions, what should I do?

Just update unless you have other things that can keep you occupied for several months of waiting. (Maybe even a year)

Since you state that you want to play online, you should know that CFW and Online should never go together and eventually won't ever since developers adopt this opinion aswell so even if a new CFW will be out you won't be able to play online or even if you do it won't be for too long till Sony is going to fix it or even ban you once and for all and you would end up with a console that has no advantages at all, nor CFW or OFW...

Other than that, seriously, I was thinking what would I do If I'd update it to OFW and I found out that eventually after a day or two I would end up using my PS3 less than I use it now, I would lose fast my interest in playing games and my PS3 would have no future and would end up unused for years. This was Sony's fault, they were so stubborn and eager to fight hacking community that they eventually ended up overshadowing even their own console's image in a state of OFW... They caused themselfs to face a lose-lose situation when they didn't really need to, hacking and piracy was a fact for years, also on their previous consoles... I don't see what changed that much and they became sooo eager to fight hackers and hacks, it technically doesn't differ to anything compared to hacks from other consoles in the past and in the present...

This is what made recently Sony face one after the other lose-lose situations, and they will keep facing in the future more and more untill some people are getting fired and going back to their homes and spread to their relatives and psychologists their negativity and their need to overcontrol everything.

A modded PS3 is something amazing. A year ago, they made it possible to play (600) PS3 games from a USB drive. On january 30, 2011 Playstation updated beyond 3.55 AND STARTING APRIL 15, NEWER GAMES REQUIRED UPDATES. But since then we got a lot of good things from the Scene:

(1) There are 40 newer PS3 games with FW 3.56+ up to FW 3.72 that are playable on CFW 3.55 including the new MW4 and Uncharted 3 which the crack for came out this week, and yet more to come !! Total playable games by today is 700 PS3 games.
(2) In the past month alone, 100 PSN games got cracked to play on CFW 3.55 and more are being cracked everyday!
(3) Six months ago, they ported 15 Emulators to play on PS3 (Imagine how many of ur Fav. ROMS you can play!
(4) You can play any PS1 game from any region on a CD-R now on your CFW 3.55 !!
(5) Showtime Media Player plays all your movies (I have 500 movies on my USB) and all my Fav. shows like DB-Z Etc.
(7) You can still have your PS3 be the center of your party cause you can browse online and sign in to your YouTube from the PS3 browser!
(8) Might not be for everyone, but you can run the newest Linux on your PS3 and PS3 can be controlled with an iPhone, and it can use the Kinect !!

So. YES UPDATE, BECAUSE IF A CRACK WILL EVER COME OUT FOR 3.6X IT WILL ALSO BE FOR 3.7X ETC! THEN SEE IF SOMEONE WITH A MODDED PS3 WILL TRADE YOU FOR YOURS.

or an xbox360, but if you ony have friends on ps3 then i would buy a jtagged xbox360 and just update your ps3 to latest ofw, since you can downgrade if you got some soldering skill

In all seriousness though I would go with extra PS3 or XBox360. I would weigh out the options though before upgrading. You are particularly at an advantage if you can solder because a lot of options are emerging in regards to downgrading and possibly dual booting if a cfw does not come out. It is no guarantee that obtaining 3.6x cfw will lead to 3.7x cfw but its looking like people are finding new ways to achieve higher gameplay so I personally would say now is as good a time as any to hold on tight. It really depends how much money you have and how much you really want to play online because CFW is almost always going to = no online. So it really boils down to whether you feel you have done everything you are interested in regarding 3.55cfw, if getting back down to 3.55 is within your skills (if necessary) and how important playing online game play is for you.
