I should say that I just ordered my ps3 online and I know nothing about how to jailbreak the system (I'll be following the instructions from this site to install linux)

I would like to know if it is possible to dual-boot the HD, so that I can choose between linux system or original PS3 OS on startup (enabling me to access psn)?

If you just ordered it, there's a good chance you won't be able to jailbreak it because only PS3s on 3.55 and lower are jailbreakable. There are some hardware downgraders you could purchase but since I don't know which PS3 model you ordered there's no certain way to say if you could get to 3.55 or not.

Also, the only dual boot option is E3 flasher but I don't know what happened with that because they promised it will work, then they said that feature won't be accessible right away and then I actually stopped caring about it so somebody else would be able to explain it better.

Hi mate your ps3 will pons defo come with 3.60 plus so you will be unlikely to jailbreak it even with a flasher sorry

I think he means he wants to dual boot between OtherOS++ and GameOS?

@ps3 abz Just hold the powerbutton to start the recovery menu button sequence and you get Petitboot, start the PS3 normally and you get GameOS. From petitboot you can also start GameOS. This is how it works for me.

Your PS3 has to be on or updated to CFW 3.55 to install Linux. You wont get PSN on CFW 3.55, that is only possible with the latest original FW that doesn't allow homebrew or Linux. Downgrade from 3.56 or higher is not possible by software, only by difficult hardware hacking and only if the original FW that was delivered with the PS3 was before 3.56. If you buy a new one now and you get it with 3.56 or higher FW you are screewed ...

@ dazzzzbo and @ Zara your not a 100% right on the bit about if you buy a new ps3 it will be on 3.60 etc , i brought a new ps3 about 5 day ago and it was on 3.50 but you gotta know what your looking for . eg i knew my ps3 would have iver 3.41 or 3.50 fw because it was the gt5 ps3 pack . but yeah if you buy a ps3 on its own then your right it will more than likely have 3.60+ .

I know that, I had to do my homework too when I bought my PS3 slim (found a Killzone 3 bundle so I got 3.50). What I meant was that buying a PS3 today without getting any info first is a gamble.

He asked about dual booting between Linux and PSN. From what I understand, that was only possible with E3 before they made it impossible (haha) and I don't really know what happened with that feature now that E3 is out. Does it support dual booting between CFW and OFW or not?

Correct, actually he wants to use Linux on a non-jailbroken system if I read it correct. Sorry for him he can't have everything ...

Thanks guys, I cancelled my order. I'll either wait for a method to jailbreak the newer model ps3s or find a older version.
