Question Stuck in Service/Factory Mode in 3.66, it's possible to get out today?

Hi,

few months ago, I've posted a question regarding Service/Factory mode:

http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=24940&page=2

As I told, my PS3 has 3.66 version installed, I'm wondering if today, if I update to 3.72 version, it will get out of this red screen (Service/Factory Mode).

There is any another way (not using E3 or progskeet)?

Should I try to update to 3.72 or should I keep waiting for a solution to get out of Service mode?

Thanks in advance.

Updating won't get you out of factory mode in any FW...
Bad idea that you entered it on any other FW higher than 3.55 since the only way now to get rid of it is a flash method (E3/Progskeet).
I can safely say that even if latter firmwares will get hacked you won't be able to exit it using a lv2diad.self file since Sony removed it's function from latter OFW's lv2, so it won't trigger anything to kick you out of factory mode upon using it.

But Sony must still have a way of exiting service mode without flashing the on board memory, youll just have to figure it out or wait for someone else to do it

It is as possible finding this as getting 3.70 keys.
I doubt anyone would bother finding a way even if 3.7X firmwares would get hacked, it's not worth the risk he would take...

I read a rumor on this very forum that slim ps3s on 3.7x could launch ps2 game discs from the xmb in factory service mode. If one could easily go into and out of service mode on the newer firmwares they could potentially enable ps2 support on slims without cobra or cfw.

I'm gonna try to find that original thread so I can link back to it

And also @jackstuard since youre stuck in service mode anyways would you mind testing that out?

EDIT: found that post http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php...rvice+mode+ps2
I tested it on 3.55 but it was a no go. That's why I'm hoping if you try it on 3.66 or 3.72 then maybe it will work. I'm sure you've heard how they recently started selling ps2 games on psn, they may have fixed the software emualtion

I still in 3.66, I didn't updated yet, but I tried using an original PS3 and swapping to a PS2 (copied), doesn't work, when I insert the PS2 copy it doesn't recognize as a game.

I could try to update to last version, however I need to know if updating to last version e3 flasher (that I'm looking to buy) will be able to downgrade to 3.5, if yes, then I can do it. Also I'm trying to get an original PS2 game to try again.

DO NOT UPDATE IN SERVICE MODE!!

Wait for your Progskeet or E3 to arrive and do it right..

Also, have you not got any PS2 originals or one you could borrow from a friend? It would be interesting to see the results.

in the post I made reference to they only talk about using ps2 originals in factory service mode, not the open ps3 swap method (which can damage your drive)

it would be interesting to see what happens if you can find a ps2 original

as far as the e3 flasher, I'm pretty sure its been confirmed working with 3.73 but you really should just wait until it comes if your planning on upgrading

but I still agree with David in the sense that if you can still go into to factory service mode via dongle then there must still be an easy USB solution to get out

So it's not possible to enter Recovery Mode and just flush the whole thing with a firmware reflash of the same OFW?

To be able to get out of service mode that is.
