I just got summoned for Jury Duty

I'm so not feeling this. What's it like? What do I do? Do I just sit there and say "guilty" or "non-guilty" while some guy/girl is being prosecuted? I literally know nothing about the law. Why me...

It is your job to be the last hope of someone being attacked by the government. It is possible that the attacks are legitimate, such as a murderer being charged for murder. It is possible that the attacks are illegitimate, such as a pacifist being charged with murder, and it is likely that it will be a person who has done nothing wrong, but who has broken the law, such as a drug dealer, tax evader, or non-violent protester. The jurors do not pass sentence; they simply decide if the believe that the defendant is certainly guilty or not. The defendant does not need to prove innocence...it is the job of the prosecution to prove a crime...if they do not do this completely, then the jurors should return with a verdict of, "not guilty".

In addition, the jurors have the unofficial ability to render unjust laws useless. If a person is being charged with sodomy (not forced), and the prosecution proves this without any doubt, the jury can still return with a verdict of, "not guilty", thus making a law designed to discriminate against homosexuals null. The same can apply to any unjust law so long as the jury considers it to be an unjust law. Jurors cannot be charged for doing this, even if it is overtly evident that they are doing so.

Many people consider jury duty to be a bother, a waste of time, or even a duty to simply say "guilty" regardless of the case...don't be fooled. Juries are the last remaining defense against a tyrannical government, and it is an honor to be seated on one.

Oh wow. Deal with it. It s your duty as an American citizen. You don't even know if it major and you probably wont even make it through the selection process. I don't like court, but at least you aren't the one being prosecuted.

my wife did it 2 weeks ago,she was there for 2 weeks, you get paid for it if you loose work time.
you just sit and wait wor a case to be assigned to you, then you sit and listen to the case,go into a room and you talk about the case untill you all come up with a decision.
its veryvery easy bud.
oh yeah you have to do it or you will get a £1000 fine!!!!
and you will get the fine if you dont turn up.

Nothing to fear except boredom and loss of money. (ouch)
Go and try to make something good out of the experience... its whatever you make of it.

Although the last time I was summoned it was a local doctor being accused of raping his nieces.
Each person one after another gave excuses as to why they were biased and should be excused.
Needless to say each excuse got better and better as the day went on.
