You can't actually see the thermal diodes because they are inside the chips, but you can read the voltage drop if you have precise probes. Plus, their readings control the fan...if the fan doesn't kick in when the chips get hot, then you know the didoes or the sensors are damaged. Of course, if the fan goes full speed right away, that also indicates damage.

The PS3 hypervisor is unable to function properly if the BD logic board is not present or broken, resulting in black screen whenever you try to run a homebrew app or PSN game.

Thanks for the info. I got a lot to consider now and finally have the console. YLOD fix will be first then perhaps a logic board remarry.************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* I recall having read about a mfw that bypasses the logic board. Do u or anyone know anything about this or Im incorrect? EDIT: after briefly reading seems u can bypass the bd but not the logic board. Would love to be corrected though...

The rest of the BD (motors, sensors and lens) doesn't matter, the hypervisor and firmware updater only check the BD logic board.

If you remarry a board to another PS3, it will no longer work on the PS3 it was originally on. Also on CECHA-CECHG you will lose BD playback with the new board, unless you have access to the DRL files that go with the logic board, or know the first BD with highest MKB it ever played. Ofc you will regain it by putting the original one back (DRL is tied to logic board, basically). 2 PS3's cannot share the same logic board. However, you can have more than one logic board work on one PS3.
