This to me seems like a good thing for the scene. In postulating publicly that this could have been a revenge attack they have in a sense admitted partial blame for the loss of its customers data, and this as a consequence of persuing a petty personal (and purely greed driven) vendetta against customers who would use their PS3's in a way that they deem forbidden. Their reputation will suffer as a result, and the next time they consider persecuting the devs of the scene they should think about how the public will react once it hits the news. Imagine the outrage if Sony were subject to another "revenge" attack ....... lol

I just hate that he says in a context that all this was an attempt to protect their console.
Which company isn't protecting their console? Are they doing it wrong? Because it doesn't seem like it... Back in 1995 and 2000 weren't you protecting your consoles Sony? Were they unsuccessful at all? They were more successful than PS3 and they experienced the double or triple hacking and piracy over PS3. What went wrong is that your assistants, your managers and CEO people are a sinking Titanic. They are the perfect example how only a tiny amount of people, let's say in this case 15-20, can cause such a bad effect in such a massive company as Sony to ruin it's whole ecostystem to a nearly unrestorable case. You constantly fire poor people from their jobs when in reallity you should just fire these people, and first of all any CEO leader to stop immediatelly the venom getting spread in the whole system before it's too late. Also remember that when you fight brutally and abruptly you can end up being more hurt that your opponent. Summing up, Mr Howard Stinger and Mr Kazuo Hirai, understand that we do not want to hear your public statements, you should better silence and stop playing with fire. If you can't, there is always the option of quiting life. I can assure you that our human rights and our consumer rights won't miss your presence in this planet. If our rights had mouth and could talk they would say ''you will NOT be missed''.

Piracy has been around since I can remember. I remember copied 8" floppies for the Acorn Electrons (they used to have copied programs in my infant school!)then the copied tapes going around for the MSX/C64/Amstrad/Speccy. After that it was copied Amiga 3.5's (my friend had 2 briefcases full), next for me was copied SNES games (through the awesome power of super wild card), then copied PC 3.5's. After that there were copied "warez" cd's (voodoo RPG baby!) for the PC and I bought a PS which was quickly chipped. Bought about 5 PS's actually (lasers would go and FMV would stutter lol). Then you know the rest - dreamcast/ps2/xbox were all hackable or possible to run backups. Now Sony is trying to turn it around ? What a ****ing joke.

Stringer is as full of it as he's ever been (and I'm not talking about "A clue")... and totally oblivious to reality too. Victims? Don't make me laugh, Anoymous said it best "You saw a hornet's nest, and you stuck your penises in it" what the hell made them think that going after a hacker (one who is very adamant in his stance against piracy at that) wouldn't have repercussions? To be 100% honest, I don't care much for Geohot; to a certain point he deserves what he got for being such a fame whore (not that I don't appreciate his contributions), but sony deserves whatever crap comes their way after what they did to Graf.
Sony threw the first punch in this fight, we were all happy go lucky until they decided to remove OtherOS under some bullsh*t pretense. Anybody with a partially sober brain cell knows that sony were going to remove OtherOS from the fats shortly after they did it with the slims (No way were they planning on maintaining 2 different flavors of updates, they have enough problems with 1 flavor). It's incredible that what the sense of loyalty that sony had nurtured in since the ps1 days were shattered in the 2 - 3 years. There's only 2 ways I would purchase a sony product now: 1) Redeem it for points on my sony card, 2) all the top executives are fired/quite. |

At least they're acknowledging the power of the hacking community.
Wait, they take away from us what was promised and they call themselves the victims? Scapegoat anyone?

You don't f**k with the kind of people who install LINUX on their playstations.
Anyway, the only real damage has been done intentionally by Sony...after the jailbreak was released console sales spiked (and they do make a profit on every unit sold)...then Sony put a stop to that by blocking the jailbreak...then 3.55 got jailbroken and console sales spiked again, so Sony stopped it again by blocking that jailbreak...now game sales are starting to slow because of all the new titles that won't work with CFW. These losses are all 100% on Sony. They claim that they are trying to prevent piracy...but that is a load of crap. Anyone who bought a PS3 for piracy would have simply bought a 360 for piracy if there was no jailbreak. If both were locked down, they would have bought PCs. Piracy hasn't increased much at all...and the small increases that have happened are only due to people being fed up with Sony, and not wanting to contribute to their actions through the percentage of the sales price that Sony gets. As for the hacks, they made money on them. By giving away old games after the network came back up, Sony increased sales of the sequels by a huge margin. Imagine...give away something that no one is willing to pay for anymore and you increase sales of something that almost no one was interested in to begin with. Of course, even knowing this, Sony will never give away free old games again...because that is just how Sony is...they consider it a win any time their customers lose. |

nice to see em admit to their wrongdoings, even if it was indirect. they're clearly scared of the collective pirating awesomeness... and btw the best devs clearly dont give a **** about being known. the ones who wanna are small potatoes. to those dumbards i say eat some shrooms and learn how to learn. LEARN HOW TO LEARN!!! the plague of ignorance will die out soon i hope. peace!

you know why they did this? they want pity from its customers. A very few percentage belongs to the "scene" the others are customers who don't know anything. if they have their support, we lose.
