heres how it goes down jap and ntsc 60 gig have hard war bc

eu 60 has 1 of the two chips and soifttware

80 has 1 of two chips and software

40 has none of em

ps1 has full software emulation

reason why there will probly be no retail full software ps2 emulation is becuase on retail ps3 there is only 128mb of memory for the ps3's os and that 128mb is already pretty full from all the features

Yea, it does doesn't it. I recon software emulation will come eventually in the form of a firmware update. (Well I hope it does :P )

fully software emulation of the ps2 games is not likely on the ps3. i'm not saying impossible. i'm saying sony hasn't gone through all the trouble of making the original hardware emulation just to do it all again in software. it would be a lot of work for little to no reward.

but i must say that taking the emotion engine out and emulating just it may not have been a bad decision. i don't think i'd see the textures in God of War and Tekken 5 so well filtured in the distances on a ps2. it's like at least 16x anisotropic filtering now. i don't think the emotion engine was designed to do that well.
