I disagree, the only reason for CFW (or 3.6+ keys) is to play new games and keep our homebrew. Sure it allows some people to indulge in piracy but at the moment I can't play Skyrim without updating and losing homebrew or by going to the expense of buying a second PS3, plus I begrudge giving Sony more cash for a second PS3.

He might like the attention or acknowledgment of people, but that's besides the point here. Everyone of those release groups do it for one of these two reasons; Money(commercial groups like cobra) or fame. But that doesn't mean that anyone owes us anything. And what you might forget is that even-though Mathieulh didn't release a thing to the public, he did share part of his knowledge and tools to a select group who did release things.

You might think that Mathieulh is angry that people leaked this information to the public, but the reality is that Mathieulh is mostly ticked off because they leaked it to Sony and didn't even give credit to the person who made the breakthrough. Who gained by leaking such information? I'm sure you used the information already to make yourself a cfw... NO? Why not?!... oh... I see... you don't know how, then it was unneeded wasn't it? Those who could use it already had it! That's why some doofus got the chance to leak it in the frst place.

The trouble also with the PS3 scene is that there hasn't been a steady stream of *good* homebrew. It's all been pretty amateurish to non-existent apart from a few emulators of very old systems. So people have nothing to play with...PSP has lots of quite interesting homebrew. I expect this is down to the multithreaded nature of the Cell and it being next to useless for efficent timely coding.

This is just a suggested reason why people might be begging for scraps etc. I'm just trying to see the other side of the coin because....there's a reason for everything

First:
I do not know if Mathieulh did, or did not decrypt the LV0, but, from what I can tell the image shown around the net as being proof is edited.

Second:
I'm not programmer. Lines of code look like alien language to me so this is not "code proof" it's just an image analysis done by myself.

With that out of the way, let's get to it. I'm not going to get into the depths of image editing, but let's just say that whenever you paste things from one image to another, or when you cover them up using anything else than the exact same color code, noise is present around the target area. Even black (there are different shades of black).

Anyway, when image compression is applied (bmp, jpeg, png, etc) the raw file gets distorted. Most often where high contrast is present. Black and White are as high of a contrast as you'll ever going to get, so noise "naturally" appears between them following the image lines, however, if the image has been edited the noise tends to become omnipresent (it's everywhere) in the edited area.

In the attachment you will find a high contrast picture of the image that floats around the net. I think it speaks for itself.

Disclaimer : I want to point out however that this is my own opinion. This is not "fact" by any stretch of the imagination, I just applied what I know about image editing and reach a conclusion, you can reach one for yourself. If I had to chose between fake and real, I would go with fake.

Your post seems to sound like it's got some strong views behind it. So I ask you, why should he not release it? Simply because it's his right? That is your reasoning? Forget the leechers\ungreatful bunch, lets assume he could realease whatever he has discovered anonymously. Why would he not?

I really don't follow, is this a moral issue?

It's not a matter of Math not oweing anyone anything, no he doesn't. But people aren't even asking for posession, he looses nothing physically to release something, it's not "giving away". It's "sharing".

Someday someone will most likely get a decrypted version of it as well, should the versions be fake, it'd expose me as a fraud, do you really think I'd do that ?
