Yes your machine looks like a capable machine once upgraded. You can most likely get that core 2 duo up to 2.8 GHz or even 3.0 if you spend some time fine tuning. The memory has some potential for overclocking as well I would say as you have 667 Mhz you might be able to push it to 800 Mhz no problem. And yes a GPU upgrade like you stated might need replacing as that is not going to be any use to you with modern games, probably even struggle on low settings. But yeah Nice rig, and good luck with the upgrades.

i can overclock much further but it suits my needs for now
only need to overclock the memory again to run on 750Mhz

gpu is a XFX 6950 launch model with dual bios
these cards could be flashed to 6970 (same gpu etc)
ofcourse i flashed it straight out of the box and saved me aprox 90 euro's

Yeah with an I5 you probably can...... WOW a 6950 with dual bios??? never heard of a dual bios on a gpu before sounds interesting. Great machine man.
BTW your memory is at 1500Mhz and is faster then mine great speeds man.

My overclock to 3.6ghz is not showing, not sure if CPUZ is lying or if I need to check my bios. My ASUS mobo has a nice built in 20% overclock feature. As does the AMD Overdrive in catalyst for my GPU. Lazy overclocking FTW! All on stock cooling.

yeah ati launched them with a switch to select the bios you want to run
ofcourse some people looked at the actual hardware of the 6950 and 6970
launch models and concluded they where the same

dumped 6970 flashes where posted and people started to flash it to their 6950 to unlock the full potential of the beast

ati prevented that by removing the switch and change the components a bit
so it wouldn't overclock as easy to 6970 speeds

Don't worry its just throttled when your system is idle. although I don't know your overclock speed I can tell that its throttled because its Lower then the stock speed. this is to save power and heat and prolongs the life of your CPU. My friend has a 5770 and its apparently faster then my gtx 260 so Im guessing the 4770 is also a good gpu.
