Immortality Drive

I was just watching History Channel's Life After People and they mentioned the existence of an "Immortality Drive" developed late 2008. Basically it is a memory device that was placed in a launched shuttle (currently orbiting the earth) that contains a digital copy of the DNA of various humans. This device was developed in an effort to preserve the human race and to provide a sample of our genetic makeup in case of a cataclysm resulting in massive human extinction or for extraterrestrial beings.

What is hilarious about this memory drive is that it includes the humans which I suppose the majority, or at least the developer of the drive Richard Garriot, collectively agreed should be available to repopulate the earth to include physicist Stephen Hawking, comedian Stephen Colbert, Playboy model Jo Garcia, game designer Richard Garriot, Pro Wrestler Matt Morgan, and athlete Lance Armstrong. This is no joke. I tried to find documentation but it is hard to come by so check out Life after people on netflix or check out this Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immortality_Drive

I think the Playboy model is what tops it off, I mean why didn't they throw in an intelligent woman in the mix? I cannot believe the international space station went through with this project! lol.

Yeah I've seen a lot of things like this.

Its just a variation on "Noah's ark"

The theory itself is quite good and I'm sure that having a playboy model would only raise interest in the males wanting to populate the planet again :-)

Edit. When I read your title I first thought you were referring to the fact that immortality is actually possible.
Finding a way to control cancer is the very real way to regenerate your cells as they do not age like our regular cells.

I love weird **** like this :-)

The only problem would be that apple would sue anyone as it would patent the word I-mmortality

Ha ha i-mmortality not if Jobs has anything to say about it >.< Sorry if that was too soon but in all reality I have all due respect for Steve Jobs and I appreciate his work within and especially outside Apple.

In regards to the playboy model I wonder if it is the general consensus of the international space station that the woman's main role in life should strictly be reproduction. I guess if you think about it the human selection was not really well thought out considering all the muscle dystrophy, cancer and silicon they would be reintroducing to the gene pool. Perhaps they should have consulted with NIH and some of the local woman's rights activists before they launched the shuttle.

Nice choice on Hawkins and Colbert though lol.

People voted for the contents; that is why Colbert is up there...he used his TV show as a podium to get himself added to the list. As for the one woman included, they probably had to turn down a dozen men ahead of her just so that if these people ever were cloned, there would be a chance at reproduction.

Realistically, it is not a great selection if you wanted to create a society...one person on the list has a terrible genetic disorder, another has had cancer multiple times, one is a cable TV anchor, one takes her clothes off for a living, one is famous for nothing but pretending to wrestle, and the last is (sadly) the best candidate on the list in spite of being famous for nothing but one series of games that died out over 10 years ago. If humanity was nearly wiped out and these people had to rebuild it, I would hope that the playboy model would die before they got a chance to start reproducing.
