Hi guys. I want to install Linux system on my PS3 and I don't even know why.
Now can you tell me about the profits?

why? lol that is a good question the ps3 is gaming system i dont even know why people install linux on their machines,i personally despise that OS,everything that is not windows is no go for me,you want other operating system you have pc the ps3 is for games imo.

if you dont know why you want to do it or what it can be used for then either enjoy doing it for the lulz or dont bother at all.

i doubt very much you will benefit from it at all except for a learning experience from the way you described it

Linux is a great OS to use along side the PS3, although I haven't had it installed since Sony took it out (I know you can install it). Linux is great for development and is a number one choice for hackers and the like because Linux is in a sense open. Windows is closed and restrictive in a sense. Other then those reasons I stated Linux has much more functionality as a media hub then the PS3 as it is flexible in adding format/codec support. Web browsing experience is also better in my opinion.

linux is a great os indeed but if you already have a pc then there's really no point in installing linux on ur ps3 but if ur just curious on how it looks like then go ahead(probobly the biggest advantage is having more funtionality over ur ps3 like tizzyt said

Some people, like me, want to see what the real hardware capabilities are, not limited by the manufacturer of the device Let's face it, GameOS (OFW) is really crappy and can only launch games and do some media stuff. You want firefox browser on GameOS?Too bad, only $ony can ad this browser to your PS3, you don't have that freedom for yourself. With OtherOS++ you can decide for yourself, no $ony dictatorship

People should install it even they can't (or want...) use it, only to make $ony mad

It is for people who want to learn, even devs learn every day some Linux while they do know a lot about the OS... People who aren't open to Linux and only think the windows-way will have a harder time to learn because all the real fun things (hacking) is done by the terminal (kind of CMD for Windows). How much do you use the command screen in windows ?
