There have been open source gaming systems in the past, even the recent past, and they have failed miserably. |

He seen that post of that guy combining Xbox 360 and PS3, its kewl but i was thinking create a completly new stand alone box, And the law of creative concepts is you only have to change the design more than a fraction that you are not copying anything this DRM you change it slightly, same answer to stevo the controller Rumble you simply change that, You only have to change things slightly to make it different thats why you see in the shops plastic sunglasses looking like oakleys there just a bit bigger or smaller and design changed slightly. All I'm saying is create your own console is a good idea sinc e you have the means here as I said there are plenty of options, there are plenty of uni students out there that you could get on board if you wanted to create your own games, I haven't seen any of these previous open source consoles, But they may have failed due to the games, even if you created a box, and still make it open source but for uni students up coming developers to put there kewl games on almost like andriod system, A hologram game like Star wars would be kewl to lol see that the technologies coming out for that soon anyways thought it was a good idea, the stand alone open source console for uni students to upload kewl games to would still be okay ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* [QUOTE= There have been open source gaming systems in the past, even the recent past, and they have failed miserably.[/QUOTE] I just been going threw of the previous open source consoles like fusebox its like i thought the games arn't that flash and doesn't have much grunt make a powerful one ![]() As I said was just an idea lol, bumped now lol

There is no amount of changes you can make to the fact that if a game controller vibrates its under patent, not the hardware that is used to make it vibrate. Those counterfeit sunglasses if they have the O on them and only have a little difference between them and real oakleys they are Illegal too. Instead of talking to some one going to college to be a game developer you might wanna talk to some one going to Law School. |

But the DRM would be the big problem, so let me expand on that: If you were to copy their DRM code, this would be piracy. If you were to reverse engineer it in order to make your own code that does the same thing, this would be a very serious DMCA violation. If you were to strip it out, this would also be a DMCA violation. Even if you were to do the reverse engineering in a country exempt from the DMCA, it would be illegal to sell the device in any country where the DMCA is applied. There are some other big problems that come to mind, I'll list some of the biggest ones in no particular order: -Even if you put huge resources into development, it wouldn't be ready for sale until well after the XboX Next, PS4, and WiiU were released...thus the goal of having support for all platforms would not be achieved. -To do PS3 emulation you would need to have a CELL processor...it is too unique to use software emulation from another chip, and too fast to use an FPGA. This is a big problem, as Sony has an exclusive deal with IBM. Sony helped pay for the fab that makes these chips on the condition that IBM does not sell them to anyone else. The only way to get CELL processors is to buy PS3 consoles...even if you bought out ebay and craigslist worldwide, you wouldn't have enough of the chips for a large production run. -While we know a good deal about getting around certain things in PS3 firmware 3.55, we don't know everything for this firmware, and we know almost nothing about firmware 3.73, let alone 4.00 . To sell the device you would need to know the minute details of the latest firmwares, and this simply isn't possible without an army of spies inside both Sony and Microsoft. -You said it yourself...you have never even noticed the other open source gaming systems. This is because there isn't money for advertising. Without advertising you don't get big sales. Without big sales your component and manufacturing costs go through the roof, and those who do know about the system don't want to spend the money for one. -The last time an open platform (other than the PC) was successful was the Atari. The success came mostly from a monopoly it held as the only affordable system available. Many companies made games for it, and they were all "start-up" companies because there were no "established" game makers back then. The games were very simple; the kind of thing that a single decent programmer can write in under a week, so the "start-up" companies could actually sell their basic games because they were not competing with companies making games that took a team of 100 people 5 years to create. This generation of console gaming was a lot like the current smartphone app market...a lot of basic stuff, most of it crap. Do you want an open platform? Get a PC. There are exclusives on the PS3 and on the 360, as well as games that go to both but not the PC...but most games end up on PC regardless. It an open platform that is already well established. It tends to be more expensive than a console, but it also tends to have better hardware capabilities and quality, as well as the ability to upgrade hardware...and it is certainly cheaper than building a custom system that has support for PS3, 360, and PC games all at once (remember...the PC has more exclusives than any platform in history, so a cross-system would need to have PC support anyway). |

Samsung won the Tablet fight against apple?
and then there was facebook and myspace, facebook copying myspace? But okay then, you guys no more was just an idea lol ![]() As far as Idea's go, i think it will go some sort of hologram box where you play games like star wars youd think? Anyways maybe you guys think about it , theres always a way around something, its evolution in technology otherwise nothing would get made and there would never be improvments in anything list goes on scuba diving gear even, then they improved and changed that thats why patents are very particular, There would be a way there always is, but anyways something for you to think about here, and i'm sure if youse wanted to you could work out the hard parts of the electronics

Facebook had some powerful lawyers...this is the only reason they didn't get shut down. A Star-Wars style hologram box would be cool. George Lucas might sue you, but I guess you could license it with him and increase sales in the process. The only issue then would be the technological limitations. You need a substrate to apply the lasers to...water, smoke, something like that. Even with a good substrate, color is still very tricky; even the best such systems look really bad. You also have certain limitations as to the kinds of games that can be applied to such a platform...games like chess work fine, RTS games could also work...but something like MW3 really wouldn't translate well, unless you just made a 2D image within the substrate. |
