Earth's Twin Discovered - Gliese 581 g

20 million lightyears from Earth lies Gliese 581 g; a planet so similar to Earth that scientists are calling it "the Holy Grail." It may not only have water but oceans, and stuff like that. Very similar to Earth. Here is a video and picture:

EDIT: SORRY GUYS. It is 20M lightyears away, NOT 123M.

Awesome news. Looks like we have hope yet. It may have oceans, rivers, but what about trees, a sun and moon and all the other important stuff.

I read something about this a few months ago, it was just said to be in the "sweet spot" towards a star.

Its a shame its so far away, I would be very interested to know more about how life would evolve with the planet in perpetual daylight/darkness as it orbits the star.

Its a shame that the neutrino tests at cern came back negative when they thought they had broken the speed of light barrier.

Oh well, guess I'll have to wait a few hundred years at least.

@alienkid , is that where you are from originally?

That is very awesome. Considering it is like our planet, it may even have life on it already. If the atmosphere is similar to ours and it does not have life, then life could be introduced to it if we ever get our asses to speeds faster than light.

Also, why do we need to now put numbers into names of planets? Have we really run out of creativity?

Gliese is the name of the star. The rest will just be a reference to the planet in question. If you think of how many celestial bodies have been discovered, there needs to be a way to identify the hundreds of thousands that are known to date. The g is the identifier for the planet out of the others that orbit gliese. At a guess I would say that 581 is the area that the system is in but that may be wrong but I'm too lazy to Google it at the moment

If it is what they say it may take us a hot minute to get to it, but our race just rape the planet like most of the people do on this one. We will just send A.I.(robots ) to do our dirty work.
