Can someone please confirm, if LV0 is scuppered the PS3 will be as open as JTAG 360s, and Sony won't be able to do a thing about it?

We just need the keys...if we can get keys we can hack the games themselves. I really don't care about a new CFW as long as I can play new games...Sony is only adding features where they sell Sony products; they can't be bothered to do anything useful like making the PS3 play MKV files or something.

The PS3 does not play MKV because MKV is a high def rip of a blu-ray. $ony get royalties for every bluray sold, so if you can download blu ray rips and play them on $ony hardware, it would be stupid of $ony to allow it. Still, it does suck!

MKV is a container. And the PS3 can play the stuff inside the container 9 times out of 10. Showtime is proof of that. It uses the PS3's own codecs to play it. MP4 can handle HD as well, Blu-Ray has nothing to do with this really.

Most people need to realize that 4.00, just because it has a much higher version number, is not a completely different firmware. 4.00 is as different from 3.73 as 3.73 is from 3.70. Sony just uses the 4.00 number for marketing purposes (Vita).

LV0 can be updated, that is how they locked down 3.60+, they hid the ldrs in lv0 and trashed metldr.
What cannot be updated is bootldr, and bootldr contains the lv0 key, meaning they cannot change that key, allowing us to decrypt any current and future lv0.

CECH-30xx are not downgradeable at all. Same applies to most 25xx with datecode 1A or 1B.

i read it but i must admit i hate reading. But like all the other new things that come out they would like mention it plays this games and stuff like that. but all they speaking about is ps vita which i also never heard about.

MKV came out long before bluray; it is an extremely useful format for lots of things...bluray rips use it because it is useful, highly functional, and cross-platform; not because it is the default or anything.

9 out of 10?? That's a great ratio. I'd say mine were 5 out of 10, because of the ref frames. Showtime doesn't play anything over 5 ref frames and 4.1 sound I believe. Although, you can adjust the ref frames/fps with the mkv software created by deanK.
