To Rebug or Not
Greetz All,
Thanks to those for adding some basic n00b tuts for people like me who are late in the PS3 scene and only now got there hands on a Slim PS3 with OFW3.55 to play with .I've read a number of tutorials and various forum site / threads and have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone can answer. My main concern is whether to use Kmeaw or Rebug, as I've yet to try either & from what I read is Kmeaw is slightly older more Noob friendly where as Rebug is possible full of stuff not really used by Noobs who just want to play a few backup games and play movies etc. Now Rebug seems to offer spoofing to the latest OFW, so I ask do I need this really if I don't accept any updates in the first place - again i am sure there is lots more in Rebug but for now I'm just querying the need for Rebug Spoof option. Q. Can the PS3 be forced to update by way of DISC / PSN / GAME / INTERNET without me accepting the new OFW? ie - does it do a sneaky without user awareness? Also why would I need to spoof if I just block the requests from $ony straight from my router's firewall? [how on earth are people accidentally upgrading] ![]() Again with Rebug I've read a few issues and new patches for these issue, since I am completely new to this - the process seems a lot harder in Rebug for the different modes NORMAL and REBUG, i'm not even sure I have the right files ie. update package1.1, selector1.5, spoofer2.1 etc , even the 3.55.2 TB throws me off since I dont use this method. The only thing I've done thus far after picking up my Slim PS3 is bought a new 8G USB Stick, formatted this to FAT32, bought a 1G EXTHDD (powered) formatted this to FAT32, changed original 160gb HDD from Slim to a WD320gb HDD and reformatted this via the PS3 Slim with OFW3.55 on the USB stick. I even went out and bought two games (pre-owned from the store) Fifa 11 & Burnout Paradise - the ultimate box, which I've yet to play as from what I can tell these games were both pre-3.55 FW when I checked a compatibility list - so I should be OK to throw these in right and play them without fears of OFW upgrading? So my next step is to load in a good CFW, and I've narrowed this down but i still cannot choose between these two Rebug or Kmeaw. The guides for Kmeaw seem very simple and complete without the needing too many updates and slightly more mature than Rebug but rebug has an aussie team member in the crew so want to support the team So this is my only dilemma To Rebug or Not ![]() I guess I could try both, but fears of bricking makes me paranoid Your Thoughts Suggestions? PEACE Kosti |

Rebug is Kmeaw, but they go the extra mile to include Debug firmware options in theirs (Options that developers get with their "TEST" PS3 in order to test programs/games).
The Debug menu is very complicated... I would be careful with it. Rebug is great if you want to get the most out of your console. Kmeaw will get you where you need to go. You can install homebrew and play backed up games. Rebug has a lot more potential, like access the dev PSN (not anymore since Sony blocked the method we were using).

All the 3.55 CFWs are essentially the same thing at the core, but ReBug is a lot different than KMEAW, to the point that there are a few ReBug-only apps. Personally I would say go with ReBug...you don't need to use the features if you don't want to, but they are there if you ever do need them. Plus, rebug is just feels more polished than Kmeaw does. There are two versions of rebug...one optimized for OtherOS, the other optimized for people who just want GameOS. Either way it is a fine system.

Of course it is a choice...you can choose to not have all the rebug features.
