Okay.. so i recently got a ps3 and i was very reluctant of getting it because there is no way to "cheat" in games that don't come with built in cheats.
No gameshark, codebreaker, or action replay to speak of.
So i stumbled upon this site. So i have a few questions..
Keep in mind i don't really know much. lol.

Does the ps3 have to be 'modded' to use the cheats you talk about on the site.

If it does or even if it doesn't can you give me a link where it explains in detail about how to download, setup and install the hack or cheat on the ps3.
The specific game which i want to cheat on is Final Fantasy 13 which i saw on the list that you can cheat on.

Well, I'm in the midst of heading off to bed, but I'll give you a reeeeeally quick run-down.

The cheats you're referring to require you to be on firmware version 3.55 or below, at which point you install a firmware update that is modified to allow you to install user-created applications, such as the cheats you've mentioned.

That said, if you're above firmware version 3.55, you'll need to have a look at what model of console you have. This information should be on your PS3's box, as well as the back of the PS3 itself. If it's a CECH-3***, you're SOL. If it's a CECH-2501A or below, you can still downgrade the console. Both of the model types I just mentioned are for slim consoles. ALL fat consoles can be downgraded. As to the method, I'll leave that up to my fellow hax members as I can barely keep my eyes open atm. I'll check back in the morn.

Sorry I couldn't be more help as of right now, but I'm sure someone will hop in to fill in the blanks.

But in order for these cheats to work. You need to be on 3.55 cfw. If your on firmware above 3.55 you can downgrade. Just look on the big red banner on top of the forum and you'll find "how to". Enjoy

Hmm....this is already said but you NEED to be on a CFW either 3.55 or the lower 3.41 CFW. You will need to download the program called PS3 cheat enabler and edit the game eboot file. after you mod the eboot file with desired cheats place the eboot back to its original place and start the game from the backup manager.

Okay, so i have a CECH - 25018 Slim Ps3
Is this the right firmware version? Or if not can i have a link where i can make it the correct firmware version.

Also i still wanted to know if the ps3 has to be modded to make all this magic happen.

that's the model number...

the firmware version is found in you system settings or something like that...

should be something like:
Settings
System Settings
System Information

in there it will say:

System Software
IP Address
MAC Address
Free Space

The Version number is System Software is the firmware you are on.

To use the cheats you will need to be on a hackable (modded) firmware like stated previously.

Follow the steps @ohhwun listed to find your firmware version. If the version says 3.56, 3.60, 3.61, 3.66, 3.70, 3.73, 4.00, or basically anything above 3.55, you'll need to downgrade, which will require additional hardware on your end to accomplish. For your model, your options for said hardware are: Progskeet, E3, or one of the various dev boards such as the Teensy++ 2.0.

Since it's more than likely you're on the most recent firmware version, or at the very least above 3.55, I've taken the liberty of including a few links below to provide you with some information:

Last thing.. so does this mean i have to get the PS Jailbreak original modchip from mod-chip.com or whereever? Or can i make my ps3 hackable without that

****no, that's old-school at this point. As I just posted, if you need any additional hardware, it will be in the form of a hardware flasher, and not a dongle. Once you get down to a 3.55 firmware or less, all you need is a modified firmware which allows you to run applications not approved by Sony (commonly known as MFW (Modified FirmWare) or CFW (Custom FirmWare)).
