After ~45 hs of gameplay on x360, my framerate in places like whiterun is really bad (10-15). Is not a ps3 only issue.
Sorry about my bad english. |

Hrm... Also, I have quite a bit of time logged into Oblivion and I have not noticed this kind of problem in it.... Maybe I have not played enough to have this RAM issue present it itself in the game, or perhaps Oblivion does not have an issue with RAM.

i just wish people to be real about this, THERES NO DOUBT ps3 RAM, IS an important issue, even for GTA (not so new game),
i played the whole TES4 (oblivion), on PS3, so many hours (had realy nothing else todo, and TES4 is awesome), many times o got worried about the PS3, so many loadings, long, crash(not so many times as u expect by the long load times), ps3 fan's at max, many noises coming from the PS3 (reading the BR). If u have a PS3 u were in the position were u was having funwith a game, but at the same time, afraid something bad would happen But that just another Sony stupid idea, "...We have the most powerful system, with CELL 8 cores..bla...bla..bla...", sony is the new sega :D "BLAST-PROCESSING" |

)But do you have both consoles? Wired to the same TV? Sure, CoD runs at 2x speed, compared to the PS3 version, but as i wrote earlier; 90% of the multiplatform games, runs way better on the X360, and the list of games would be too long to write down. I'm not a fanboy, I simply choose to play on the gaming platform that suits me best.. Here is my perspectives on the 2 consoles (PS3/X360) PS3: Pros: Blu-ray, DTS, Uncharted, and better compatibility with other hardware. Cons: Lack of interest from game-developers, Way too much loading/installing in games, No multi-chat. X360: Pros: Xbox Live, Multiplatform games, Joypad, Multi-Chat. Cons: Limitations (Files, apps, savegames), No Blu-ray drive. It's in fact a natural evolution, what happens with the two big muscles (Sony/Microsoft).. Sony had some good years with the PSX and PS2, and Microsoft couldn't get their Xbox1 out to people, cause everyone had the PS2, despite the Xbox1 had superior hardware. When Microsoft released the X360 in late 2005, they were the first with a "Next-Gen-Console", and all the american developers, started off by getting prototypes and development-software, long before the PS3 arrived. Today we see the americans shake each-others hands, and the japanese are doing the same. X360 is the secondary console in United States and Europe. PS3 is the secondary console in Asia. Wii is the ****ing primary console all-over the world, but Nintendo also has a long term relationship with, hmmm, "the whole world"

I explained why the game is lagging the way it does.
Yes it has to do with the fact that the ps3 doesnt have alot of ram. However people forget that the type of ram the ps3 has is really fast. And you also have a really fast processor. EVEN WITH THESE THINGS. You will always get a choppy game when your waiting for a hard disk drive to update your game. Put it this way. Engineers invented cache space for CPUS because waiting on RAM is considered too slow for them. When your a cpu, things like the speed of a light can be a real burden. Now lets put this in perspective. You have a MOTOR driven hard drive disc. It has to atleast be ready to load everything you can possibly see, plus the things you have altered from the core game files between loading screens. The world map is the biggest thing in the game, and it obviously is having to dynamically allocate alot of information. Fine tuning this while keeping the game stunning, IS HARD. People complain how bethesda is "bad programmers". THE GAME IS HUGE. They make it work on half a gig of ram. Thats crazy. Everytime you open a chest, and drop an item. You just generated a new physical item in the world, and that has to saved to your file. The more you change the world, the bigger your save file gets. The only way they can "fix" it, is to literally reduce the amount of polygons and vertices the CPU is having to forward over to the GPU from its RAM at any given time. This means a closer draw distance, poorer mip-mapped textures and a few other performance based things. The xbox has better performance because it can bend the rules when it comes to memory management. If the ps3 caps out its 256 mbs of ram thats reserved only to the CPU, it has to play catch up and use hard disc swap memory to prevent a system stall. The xbox however can go over the 256 mb limit because it shares its memory with gpu. It cant do it by much without noticeable effects, but its enough to obviously make a considerable difference. Like i said, if you guys want to play skyrim enjoyably. Either invest in a 70 dollar SSD, or reroll your characters. The game is fun, it has a ****load of content, and even with the bugs. Its one of the best games I bought in a long time. Last edited by Rogerdodger91; 12-06-2011 at 07:23 PM. |

It still does mean that to be successful when it comes to game development on the PS3 you will have to optimize your code and avoid producing software the way it has been done since C64, with it’s exponential growth of cpu and memory requirements due to bloated attitude and high level languages.

Now, I can't but disagree with your over estimate of "90% games run better on the 360". This is a very big over estimate. I recently (2 days ago) just bought an 360, and hooked it up with the same TV. I see NO difference at all. I have compared MW3 on 360 and PS3, and the PS3 framerate is off by 2 or 4, but not much of a difference. I have compared Skyrim, both games deliver the same graphics. The begining of Skyrim, is smooth for both consoles, and I have even switched between the PS3 and 360 to compare (2 HDMI cables and slots), no difference. Maybe I'm not looking as hard, but there might be a very tiny blur effects or so on the PS3, but nothing more. Another game we can compare is Battlefield 3, both consoles (with the texture pack) look amazing and I can see no major differences. Again, some blur effects on the 360 which kind of wreck the version. "PS3: Pros: Blu-ray, DTS, Uncharted, and better compatibility with other hardware. Cons: Lack of interest from game-developers, Way too much loading/installing in games, No multi-chat. X360: Pros: Xbox Live, Multiplatform games, Joypad, Multi-Chat. Cons: Limitations (Files, apps, savegames), No Blu-ray drive." "Lack of interest from game-developers", just a few weeks ago I thought I read somewhere the Skyrim community manager (is it?) saying that the PS3 is not a problem for many developers anymore. Developers are now interested in the PS3 to an extent from having the PS3 on the upper hand in exclusives. "Way too much loading", please. Uncharted fixed this issue, I hardly see any loading and even if I do, it is probably a second or two. Multiplatform games have the same amount of loading between the PS3 and 360. In the end, the PS3 is less superior in hardware in some cases, but nowadays developers don't seem to have this problem anymore. Bethesda even took it to the extent that developing for the PS3 is much easier now since technology is advancing. I am no major fanboy, but I have been with PlayStation since the PS1, and two days ago was the first time I bought a 360. Other than that, I have been playing 360 games in my friend's houses.
