Sounds like the hard drive crashed due to the hard reset you did after it froze, or maybe the hdd was being accessed when you shut it down.

How did you shut it down?
The power switch in the back (pulling the cord out on slims), or pressing the button upfront?
The way to safely shut it down is to just hit the power button/sensor upfront. It will bleep once, then after a bit it will do a double bleep and go to standby.

If you cut the power using the rear switch or pulling the cord out, then that was probably what caused problem.

yeah it sounds like ur hardware is going bad. Just because u were running the app and ur machine messed up doesn't mean that the app did it. How old is ur machine?????

Showtime freezes A LOT during HD playback, so it is unlikely that age is the problem. Showtime especially loves to hang if you fast forward or rewind HD content.

The problem lies with either the HDD, or the power getting cut to it while it was doing something.

no i use the power touch button at the front to shut down.

====

Still there is no way to prove that it is not the app that is the cause or a factor in the hdd corruption

What we do know is showtime does freeze when rewind or fast forward HD content...

I still think this is something to look further into by the devs....

I format my FS and everything works good again...

So I still don't know if the hdd was the cause but the hdd works again after the format of the FS...

Plus hdd was never a problem before I used showtime.
I played ps3 running games from internal and external without issue until I used showtime...

I still think this is something to look further into by the devs....
since we don't want it to happen to others

What I do know is, showtime is it played a role in the hdd corruption cos it freeze the ps3...(as confirmed by others here)

Once the ps3 freezes, it can corrupt the FS if something is writing to the hdd at the time..
and users only option is to power it off..either from the front or back..
I did it from the front power...but it still corrupt it

So just a warning to any one considering to use showtime
Just be careful with this app..

And I think this needs to be investigated further rather than just guessing it must be the hdd..
since data corruption is a big deal when u lose all your saves..

And people please backup your game saves...do it regularly.. IT is the hardest part to recover if the hdd fails or corrupts
That is probably the BIGGEST LESSON of all.

If Showtime cause corruptions, then I am pretty sure this topic would come up a bit more often. This is the first time I have seen anyone post this since Showtime came to the PS3...

You could file a complaint/bug report on Showtime's site: https://www.lonelycoder.com/hts/showtime_overview.html

No thanks

I don't plan to use the app anymore

Look I only wrote this to warn people of possible hdd corruption
with this app

People can take that information and use it however they want..
