If i change my motherboard...

Ok so i recently broke the clip on my motherboard that connects the bluray data cable, i wedged a piece of thin card in there to act as a clip to keep it in place for now but it does come loose quite often, so i was wondering if i buy a replacement motherboard for my ps3 would it be on old firmware/factory firmware? would i need to get a brand new hdd instead of using the current one i have for it?

Would be good if it was old/factory firmware :P

personally i would just use some hotglue to hold the cable in.

also a replacement will need repairing to the other hardware

The only thing you need is the logic board when replacing the motherboard, they are matched so the bluray works, the website i would buy from sells the paired logic board with the motherboard, also the board i'll be buying will be the same model as my current board so the other hardware should work

I might try hotglue but do you know if the firmware will be old if i get a new motherboard because then i can kill 2 birds with 1 stone, downgrade without flashing + bluray clip fixed

it depends what firmware was on it when it was stripped. theres no way to tell unless the seller knows

You are still able to use the clip (hopefully you didn't throw it). I have a broken clip on my 60gb and I still use that to put the cable in place.

EDIT : Found the video I made a while ago showing how to put the clip and ribbon in place :
