So, I think I found out what I want to do for a living.

The question however, is how.

For a while now, i've been going to college for majoring in CIS(web game programming) only to realize its a mere pipe dream major since the game development field is hard to get into. Also, finding a job is a pain in the ass itself which made me believe that doing self employment is the best way. Then, randomly in my bed 6:00 in the morning I just told myself "**** GREG, THE ANSWER WAS IN YOUR FACE MANY TIMES ALREADY"

Basically, I'm planning on starting up a video game store/gaming center(center preferred)

What would I need to do to start this up? I'm willing to wait until I finish college.(19 years old with 1/3 years completed)

you would definately need quite a bit of money for obvious reasons.
if you are serious about a gaming centre then you may want to try and get some sort of sponsorship from nvidia/ati/intel/amd etc for only using their hardware and advertising it heavily instore, using the computers as sort of demo units.
as long as there arent any similar places in your area and it is quite a large district you live in im sure they will come to some sort of deal with you.

in the mean time, try to get a rough idea of location and cost of property.
personally i would want maybe the computers on either basement level or first floor but never ground floor in case of robbery etc to make it harder and lowering insurance premiums in the process.

I'm planning on starting off with console games. PC games will follow if business turns out decent.

Similar places? Not really. I never saw a gaming center in my area for all 19 years of my life.

Cost of property well...my dad is a self employed contractor. Maybe I can get some type of clue from him.

Cool story bro. I wanna be a chef (y)

Anyways,

STOP! Before you get into programming your own game, if you solo it it may take over 5 years to create. Think, no income for 5 years. Only make a project website with adverts is all I can think of. You MUST find another source of income! E.G signing on and getting job seekers allowance. That is only if you're going solo. If you wish to work with a group, don't choose some randy **** on the internet. Find people at your collage. Also think, will your game succeed, what would make it 'unique' from others, why would people want to play it, what's the benifits from it (like meeting other people around the world or education) and lots more things you need to think of.

Hope this helped you a little bit and didn't put you off... Haha.

You might want to do a little bit of market research...there might be a good reason why you don't have gaming centers in your area.

Also, what exactly do you mean by "gaming center"? There are a lot of different things that could mean and it kinda sounds like you want to have a LANparty space where they systems are supplied...except with consoles that don't have many LAN games. What exactly do you intend to offer that would get people to step away from their own consoles, drive across town, and pay you money to play your console that doesn't have their profile on it? Unless you live in Amsterdam and will be integrating with a coffee shop, I just don't see the appeal.
