Hello everyone. I'm new to the PS3 scene (coming from 360 scene). I'm picking up my PS3 Slim next week and i have some questions. My friend bought from the same store a week ago, and it had 3.66 installed from factory, so i assume mine will have the same. I read there's no support for backup games on "kakarotos" 4.00 firmware, which isn't what i'm looking for. I also read that you can't downgrade to a lower version if it hasn't been installed on the console before, and i also read that it can. So i'm a little bit confused here. What should i do to downgrade from 3.66 to 3.55? Is it possible with a E3 Flasher/ProgSkeet etc? Is it possible at all?

Yes you can downgrade from 3.66 to 3.55 via E3 Flasher/Progskeet/Tenseey(I'm not sure if I spelled write). The new E3 Flasher is solderless and there is a whole thread about it with tutorial.

Thanks. So it doesn't matter if only 3.66 has been installed on the console? Also, is it "kmeaw 3.55" that i have to install to get all the good stuff? And can i update to latest firmware without any issues in the future? Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I visited E3 Flasher website, it says it can downgrade from 4.00 to 3.55 - Will this work for my friend?

You can upgrade to 4.00 then downgrade to 3.55

Yes kmeaw 3.55 or rebug 3.55.2 are the best cfw's to have( for all the good stuff lol).

Yes you can upgrade to the lastest firmware without any issues(I haven't heard about any ban).... BUT with E3 Flasher you can stay on 4.00 to play online or newer games and when you wanna play your backups you can just downgrade to 3.55 again and just alternate between the 2 freely

And yes it will work for your friend

i dont think you can downgrade if your slim came with 3.66 there is a little program that tells you wht you can downgrade to forgot wht its called but it is somewhere here download that and check wht you can downgrade to

install this on a usb

make a folder like


1.Transfer the MinVerChk file to a USB flash drive, as if it were an upgrade (e.g. x:/PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP)
2.Insert the USB flash drive into the PS3′s USB port.
3.Install the update from XMB (This will fail and display the base firmware).


and if it show 3.55 or lower then you can downgrade with e3 flasher or progskeet
if not you will have a risk of brick
