I don't know what all this would entail since there's no info on it but Bootmii doesn't require any extra hardware. Most everything evolves to softmods anyways. I think once Sony realizes, if they already haven't, that XBox is setting record sales because of peoples abilities to play back-ups that the info will get leaked anyways.

That would make sence in a regular market, but Sony is a bit more narcisist,
and if you attempt to step on their toes, they do want you to die, not just to find the less painfull solution.

I was hanging the washing out the other day, wondering why sony spends SO, so much money on disallowing modifications to the console (eg. backups, homebrew)

If they didn't spend so much money on it, people would buy PS3 a heck of a lot more than x360, and they'd save money, and they'd make more money.

Do the devs pay them to keep their console closed?
It doesn't make sense to me, when the first jailbreak came through, sales went crazy.

Hmm this actually sounds quiet possible. Now im no expert but I'm guessing this is how it might work.

1) on PS3 power on, instruction are loaded from on die rom, and that loads bootldr.

2) in place of the original bootldr, there would be the bootloader happily masked as bootldr. And in said bootldr a bootmii like menu is presented. One of the options will be to boot normally and that option is in turn an instance of the real bootldr, therefore boot system normally.

Now this is completely a thought and is not in anyway showing how it would exactly work or even if it would work. Just an idea people......lol.

Also I think a flasher would be needed to implement such an idea anyways.

Your theory is possible whit bootldr key, and whit bootldr key/control we can get lvl 0 key, and whit lvl 0 signed by us we can get cfw from now to the end of the console life....so we are again at the start point of january ( 3.56 release)

Well like mathieulh stated, the bootloader can be loaded more than once so the possibility is real although I feel this news is not
