How fast mankind forgets...

Well, I just found a Video, posted by my cousin.
I want to clarify something before you watch this:

It's a video made by a christian! And please don't stop reading now!
It's supposed to be a video against abortion. It draws parallels between the Holocaust and abortion today. It sounds quite rude and ugly when I say it, but i think it's a very good movie (30min)
Now, I don't want to turn you into believers or something!
Now I just care about mainly the first part of the video when it's only about Hitler and the Nazi Regime.

It's pretty hard for me, living in Vienna - Austria, where you see marks of the Holocaust (such as Memorials of Jews at the places they used to live, statues for the War-Veterans, ...), to see that -not only teenagers- in America forget (some even not believe) what Hitler has done to the world.

I tell you: there is some strong footage in the video, so don't watch if you have weak nerves...

"180" Movie - YouTube

I'm not going to watch but my opinion is that some things should be forgotten and move on.
Lessons should have been learned and dwelling on the past serves no other purpose than bringing bad feelings back for anyone affected.

People are really dumb. For instance, you can use the memory of a murderous tyrant control freak to inspire people to want to have laws controlling them like they do in this "film".

There is a difference between a government rounding up an entire race for slave labor and death and a pregnant woman choosing to abort so that she can build a life worth living for the results of future pregnancy(s).

Anyway, even if you did make it illegal for a woman to make choices about her own body, there would still be abortions...they would just result in more accidental deaths and more women that could not get pregnant again in the future. Abortion was illegal for a long time, and there are a lot of great reasons why those laws were changed.

Yeah. My parents are from Romania, and there abortion WAS illegal, when Ceausescu was at power.
And doctors made the abortions in their garage...

But you got it wrong: My purpose was the first part of the video where they ask people about Hitler.

@japsander : Well. It's up to you if you watch it or not. But as the "moderator" (dunno how I should call him ^^) states:
In Germany and Austria Nazis are forbidden. He says that in Austria (I do live in Austria, but I don't know whether there is such a law) you even go to jail if you deny that there ever was a Holocaust.
And he also says why there are such laws:

If people forget, we're pretty much heading towards a NEW Holocaust...

And I can see it in Austria:

parties in Austria that are AGAINST foreigners get more and more votes! And everybody knows their Nazi-like thoughts, but nobody does anything about it, just because they (the members of these parties) don't say it out loud what they truly think...
And even those "foreigners" who are about to get pushed off if these parties win vote for them!

nope @japsander , I don't think we should forget what has happened...
Not just for those millions of people who have died.

€dit: Sorry for my bad english. :-S

If you want lessons to be learned they have to be remembered somehow by new generations, not in a "let's-look-at-all-the-bad-things-we-did-and-let's-whip-ourselves" manner, but in a "let's-not-forget-the-mistakes-of-the-past" manner. That's, I believe, the only proper way to move on. Especially when some people nowadays, because of the bad economy or just because they're stupid, are enclined to vote for political parties willing to recycle old and stinky ideas to reach power.

My two cents.

That's why I said "lessons should have been learned"
Bringing it up all the time obviously pisses the Germans off as they as a nation are still seen as evil when the atrocities are relieved over and over again and brings back feelings of hate from the nations affected by it

I didn't mean literally forget (bad choice of word)
I should have said "not shoving it in the nations face"

Look at Muslims, they have a bad rep simply because of a minority and its not fair to make them feel they are evil just because of their nationality.

I'm not going to watch it, frankly because I believe it's bound to be biased and I'm really brain-dead after today.

Isn't it unfortunate, that as soon as I read "made by Christian" I was instantly put off?
I've got quite the social stigma going on, I don't like religions very much, but I do respect the good aspects of them, and I respect the way I treat people who believe in them the same as I would another person IRL.
I really don't want to get into a religion battle, so I'll conclude with "In my opinion."

The people at the start of the movie were just ignorant bastards. I bet most of them wouldn't know what the pythagorean theorem is either. Some of them were actually correct in spite of their ignorance...and the ignorance of the film maker resulted in them being included. Two or three said he was a communist leader...and he was. NAZI = Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei = National Socialist German Workers' Party.
