How Can Games Developers Charge So Much ?
Something tht has nigglin me for a while, decided to ask peoples opinions. How can these companys make games tht are only a few Gigabytes 2-3 etc and still charge £35-40 each. Then some games are over 20gb-50gb in size. Theres something not right is there!!! They shldntbe able to charge the same price, when clearly not as much work has gone into it going on how many GB are in the game!!

The quality of a game is not determined by it's size first off, and the "reason" why game developers charge so much for their content, is because of how "advanced" the current generation consoles are, and they want more money for the man hours they put into developing these games on "advanced hardware." Basically, they're greedy. Oh yeah, and capitalism.

A games size is irreleveant when talking about quality. Super Mario Bros. on NES is like... 1MB and has more quality in it than a lot of current gen games out right now combined.

The truth is that games have gotten cheaper over the years. I remember when some SNES games were selling for $80 a copy...and with inflation, that would be over $120 today...for something under 1MB.
Also, a lot of games have cut-scenes making up much of the space...so a game like Skyrim is small enough to fit on a DVD, and it offers 300+ hours of playtime on a huge landscape while uncharted 3 was over 50GB before they added compression, the maps are small, and the game can be beaten in 4 hours. |

Snes and n64 games were regulary gbp 69.99 back in the day in the uk.
Based on the size agruement games should now cost more than a house. We're never had it better. Rich Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk |

I just want to know why digital copies of games cost so bloody much! I'm pretty sure Battlefield 3 costs NZ$89.99 on EU PSN?! I havent checked since I seen around release day but I'm sure the price is still the same. You'd think a digital copy would be a hell of a lot cheaper, to get more people using this option and lowering the used game sale stats.

The devs don't charge you any money, companies do.
But since you brought this up, makes me think in why the is price of games are the same for the three major gaming console brands. Isn't there price competition everywhere and who sells the same thing cheapest, sells more? Cartel.... hum. I think I'm gonna smoke one more and feed this tought. |
