I just read on Rebug's website that you can spoof the newer firmwares (3.7+). Does that fix the problem of the games asking you to update to newer firmware, or is it something else entirely?

Oh wow, that's actually a relief. I was worried I would be stuck on 3.55 if I updated to it, but I think I'll test out the 3.41 jailbreak first, just in case. I appreciate all the tips, thanks man.

Oh and one more thing, I'm reading the multiman guide and in the beginning it says not to allow updates from [...] or the original games. Does that mean the game discs (I bought a few PS3 games) have the updates on them? Or is he just saying the games ask you to update.

depending on the game if you put a game in that requires 3.60 your console will get updated and you wont able to come back down to 3.55 so make sure you dont put in any new games or else you might accedently update your console and as for the 4.00 spoof that is just so you dont accedently update thru internet but by saying that you can stil accedently update thru new games so make sure not to update thru new game or internet and if you playing a game and accedently update game you can always delete update for game
but you cant delete firmware only way to downgrade past 3.55 is to use a flasher like progskeet or e3 flasher might require a bit of soldering

That's rather crafty on Sony's part.

Does it at least prompt you with the option to say like 'No I don't wish to update at this time?' Or if you even just insert the game are you screwed.

the good thing with rebug is the options for debug console
including fake saves some dlc packages out there and other things
but because i dont need them and i dont want my son to accedently do stuff with debug stuff i am staying on kmeaw been using it over a year now with no
problems at all

Haha, that's a good idea.
Actual Debug mode can only be activated if you install the Rebug Selector from the package install option under Install Package Files > HDD. It has both the 1.5 and 1.6 Rebug Selectors. Without using one of those to change it to actual debug mode, all it is is a Debug 1 looking xmb, but still in retail CEX mode and not Debug DEX.

Sorry to bug everyone again, but I'm moments from updating to the official 3.55 firmware.

I just want to double check that there's nothing really to gain from remaining on 3.40?
