ps3 psu/gpu overheating
Ok so I posted a couple weeks ago about my ps3 freezing when playing games/movies. Well I've narrowed it down to a heat issue but not sure how to solve it. Yesterday I used a little fan aimed at the psu and was able to play thru a whole movie no problems. So I tried a different psu but same thing it got too hot and caused the movie to freeze. System fan is working but I think it's only running at low speed, it never speeds up as system gets hotter that I can tell. Eventually psu gets too hot to touch and thus freezes. Now should I try a different fan or is it possible that the system is not telling the fan to speed up, my other thought was to try to get a psu that runs cooler and/or place something under psu so that it doesn't overheat the gpu/cpu whichever is right under it. Not sure??? It's a ceche01...psu aps226. Any help appreciated.

It sounds like the fan is simply not getting the signal to go faster. There are numerous things that can cause this, but the easy fix is to just get a fan controller and turn up the speed.
Oh...and while I respect the work of Rebug greatly, neither I nor my fan controllers have anything to do with them. |

ok I'll check into it...also do you know if can you run a jumper off the fan to somewhere to increase the speed as well?

Jumper? No...but you can disconnect the fan PWM wire from the plug going to the mainboard, and splice it into the 3.3V wire between the mainboard and the PSU to set the fan to full speed. However, this only works on PS3 fat models...not the slims.

Ok well tried running wire direct to the 3.3v and it's loud as heck, which I knew it would be. So do you (KB) still sell your controllers? And how would I get one if I need one? Thanks.
