so ive got my controller for some years now and have almost no problems until now, i recently played saints row the third on pc with my ps3 controller and it looks like my right thumbstick is pushing to the right and cant look left anymore but the weird thing is that the thumbstick is DEAD CENTER, so i open the controller to see if dust or moist was the problem or maybe something fried but i don't see anything wrong/burned. has anyone have suggestions, its not like the thumbstick hangs when pushed, it always go back to center, so whats the problem???; can it be the motor/electronic part of the thumbstick is broken???, i tested it with assasins creed revelation and the same thing happens, and i don't want to buy a 59 euro controller if it can be fixed? going to sleep, will check back in a few hours.
Pls a little help here Thx |

Sounds like a dead hall effect sensor on the stick...either that, or a dead op-amp reading it. Either can be fixed...the op-amp is a bit harder to replace as it is a tiny little surface mount IC.
Oh, before you do anything, try using the reset button on the back of the controller. |

The next step would be to replace the hall effect sensor...or maybe the whole stick assembly if you want to do it a bit easier.

I took apart one of my old controllers so many times the plastic sheet that goes over the board wore out. The down button on the D-pad stopped working and when I pressed up it would affect other functions too. I bought a new one after the analog sticks got squeaky from playing too much Socom. That probably wouldn't affect your analog sticks but I would make sure the contacts are clean anyway. As for where you can find parts I have not a clue. Maybe you can find a broken controller online that has what you need.

I don't know what that hall effect sensor is but if it's in the stick I could send you my old one. The left stick is squeaky and used up but the right stick is in good condition. If those parts are interchangeable you can have it since you are good with solder.
**EDIT** I thought you needed a left stick my bad. This might work perfectly for you then.

The hall effect sensors are the blue things with 4 pins coming out the bottom in the picture you posted; there are two per stick.

but i live in belgium and shipping it would cost you some money, and yes i only need the right one, but if you want to send it then just reply here, Thx, @KillerBug , the ones from the old sixaxes are not the same as these, and ive been searching many web pages/forums in belgium but i can't find anything, ow and i don't trust buying second hand online like ebay or kapaza, or if someone here has a spare and live in belgium or is willing to ship this to belgium then i am glad to give/send you some mony for it, my solder skills aren't that good, but there are no parts close to the pins so i can't damage the mobo, but still i am going to buy a new one, so if the part comes in i hvae finaly 2 ps3 controllers. |
