This is a copy and paste from this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act
The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), also known as H.R. 3261, is a bill that was introduced in the United States House of Representatives on October 26, 2011, by Representative Lamar Smith (R-TX) and a bipartisan group of 12 initial co-sponsors. The bill expands the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods.[2] Now before the House Judiciary Committee, it builds on the similar PRO-IP Act of 2008 and the corresponding Senate bill, the Protect IP Act.[3] The bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as copyright holders, to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. Depending on who requests the court orders, the actions could include barring online advertising networks and payment facilitators such as PayPal from doing business with the allegedly infringing website, barring search engines from linking to such sites, and requiring Internet service providers to block access to such sites. The bill would make unauthorized streaming of copyrighted content a felony. The bill also gives immunity to Internet services that voluntarily take action against websites dedicated to infringement, while making liable for damages any copyright holder who knowingly misrepresents that a website is dedicated to infringement.[4] Proponents of the bill say it protects the intellectual property market and corresponding industry, jobs and revenue, and is necessary to bolster enforcement of copyright laws especially against foreign websites.[5] Opponents say that it infringes on First Amendment rights, is Internet censorship,[6] will cripple the Internet,[7] and will threaten whistle-blowing and other free speech.[8] To sum things up, I think Sony and getting access to lvl 0 is the least of our problems.

This has already been posted somewhere I think but I agree entirely and SOPA is ridiculous. If this passes it will ruin the internet.
Everyone using firefox can get the add-on called DeSOPA.

While I will acknowledge pirating as wrong, this seems a little extreme. A felony for streaming? What is sad is that these big companies will pad the lawmakers pockets and this bill will pass because the small number of us that realise what this means about our electronic freedom will not win out over greedy corrupt lawmakers and big corperations as seen in the other OS lawsuit

It won't ever happen, just think the amount of money organizations and companies will give to "silence" the people responsible for it...

its the same bill they just keep trying to change the name to get around people, and make the blind public think its a good bill. this thread can stay open i am all for them stopping piracy its something i think they should do but this bill is a f*cking joke it does not accomplish that, all it does is give them complete control over the internet. this bill needs to be stopped. i think they fear an impending revolution(i think its time for one) so they want to have as much control as they can to try and squash it. none of the people running for president know what the f*ck they are doing, they will all do the same thing no matter what they say. i dont want to hear a dam thing about ron paul as the guy is a joke i saw a campaign ad for him the other day that made me loose a lot of respect for any one who thinks he should be elected. i also have a very strong feeling obama wont be going out of office and it WONT be because he won an election |

Like it or not, it's most likely going to happen. The corporations are paying lobbyists to pay congressman to pass this into legislation. If they could pay congress to send all the jobs overseas they can and most certainly will pull this off too. If they don't care about your jobs do you think they care if you can download content. If they pass bills like the Patriot act that violates your civil liberties then they're going to care even less about your internet privacy.
