For all who wonder why PS3's CPU is so limited:
http://www.ps3devwiki.com/index.php?title=CELL_BE PS3's CPU is composed of 1 PPE and 8 SPEs. PPE is doing only integer math, which allows an OS to function. SPEs can't do integer math. They can only do floating-point math, which is used in hashing, graphics rendering, vector computation, etc. So as you see, this is used for games and multimedia. You can't use floating-point math to accelerate integer math. Now I hope I've cleared up things. |
