100% new to ps3 hacking, I've done psp jailbreaking (pandor's battery style), ipod touch/phone and such devices and never any real consol hacking of any sort (no ps2/xbox hacks). I've been doing some searching around on this website and read some tutorials but I'm still confused as to what I need to do what I want.

Here's what I got:
I got the fat PS3 with the four USB's and it is backwards compatible with the PS3.
Lots of large usb's, and external HDD's & fast internet.

What I want:
I want to be able to download ps3 iso games and run them off a external HDD or a bigger internal one or someway that works. (:

Here's what I know:
There are ways of doing it such as buying a usb 'dongle' like Trueblue. I saw one called E3 flasher or something like that but from what I know the E3 thing is not compatible with my PS3. I also saw all of this custom firmware tutorials and from what I know is I need that to be able to use things like Trueblue.
edit: I also know I need to downgrade my PS3, and from what I know it's near the latest if not the latest firmware out right now.

Here's what I need help with:
Am I on the right track?
Is my PS3 compatible with any custom firmware? I ask this because I remember trying to hack my way back when and my PS3 needed to be a specific select few models.
Also, once I mod my PS3, I've read around and a few things are saying that PSN will no longer work. Does this go along with things like Netflix?
With the usb dongle's, which one is recommended to get? I've seen that some of them are not compatible with all custom firmwares. Also, which one has the most available games? I've seen that not all of the dongle's can play all games.

First thing first, what firmware are you on? Since you mentioned psn and netflix, I'm going to assume your on the lastest firmware. In order to have a cfw on your ps3, you will need to a hardware flasher. The E3 Flasher should support your ps3. The last time I check their site, it said it supported fat and slim ps3.

3.55 is the firmware you need to get to. anything over 3.55 ofw requires hardware to get to 3.55. E3 or proskeet

Yes it is. You will need a hardware flasher like I mentioned in my previous post

and according to the charts my ps3 is not compaitable?
