Hey everyone

I just got a CFW 3.55 PS3 slim running on rebug. I'm a bit paranoid about my PS3 possibly updating or whatever, so I disabled the net completely.

However I want to stream movies from my PC to my PS3. This means that I have to enable internet access to my PS3, so that it can connect to my home wifi.

If I connect the PS3 to my home network for streaming/FTP purposes, should I be worried that the PS3 might sneak an update, or worse, phone home to SONY? What is the worse that can happen? Also I don't ever intend to go on PSN.

Also, Im unable to do any router configuration. I dont know the router pass, and Ive tried all the general default passwords.

So whats the best way to go about this?

Install the 0.6 Rebug Update Package or 4.00 Version Spoofer so that your PS3 will think it's on 4.00 and not ask for an update.

It's reverseable and must be uninstalled before updating.

I just installed the 0.6 Rebug update package, and the ps3 system info now shows 3.66 firmware. Is this good enough, or do I need 4.00 spoofer? If I want to install 4.00 spoofer, do I need to uninstall 0.6 Rebug first? I've read about people bricking their PS3's from using the spoofer. Should I be concerned?
Now that 0.6 rebug is installed, should I worry about the PS3 phoning home to Sony, or auto updating? Like I said before, all I need to do is stream/FTP. No PSN business.

The PS3 doesn't 'phone home' as such nor will it sneak an update on you (it won't download in the background and update while you sleep). I have heard that too but as the spoofer is native to Rebug firmware I'm not sure that any errors would occur. These bricks usually happen with people on 3.41 or different non-native firmwares (such as waninkoko or kmeaw) so if i was in your situation i probably wouldn't worry about it.

I'm not a developer or coder, i just have knowledge in various fields so you might have to ask one to make sure u won't brick your console. Make sure you state your PS3 model eg CECH-XXXX or whatever is says.

The spoof worked flawlessly. Its on 4.00 now.

Its better to use rebug 4.00 and connect the internet to your PS3 it will not for any updates further.

Rebug doesn't make a 4.00 CFW only a version spoof which is what he has installed. I'm not sure what you are referring to. Is there something i have missed?

Yes , what you said is correct , I thought he already installed CFW 3.5 and wanted to disable the updates .

If you want to get rid of automatic updates then use rebug 4.00 on CFW 3.5

ok cool. I MUST reiterate. Don't forget to uninstall the spoof before you update. Some people have updated and it has stayed at 3.7 on their version when using a 3.7x spoof.

Correct , better to format the Hard disk lol :P
