Mod an intercooler

So I have this intercooler that I got for my CECHA01. I got it cheap and fixed it up. The only thing I don't like about it is what everyone doesn't like about it, you have to manually turn the ps3 on and off. So, I was thinking about sticking a relay in the intercooler and powering the fans through that and allowing the ps3 pass through, full time power. The relay would trigger on when the usb ports come out of standby.

Has anyone done this?

Please don't just say they are junk and I don't need it. Hey, it's something to mod...

if the relay is small enough and doesn't drain to much power it should just work fine i don't see a big problem there tbh
actually it's kinda a good solution

They have relay boards on ebay. Some for arduinos, some for whatever and Under $10, so i figured it should work. Just didn't know if someone has already done it so i could check it out how they did it. There are tutorials online about powering pc pericpherals this way to save electricity. I figured someone had already done this to the intercooler because it seems like that is what needs to be done with the thing. But then again, most people probably don't even use these things.

Ok, well I scrounged through my junk parts and found a 5v relay in an old wireless phone charger/base and a male cord from a keyboard/mouse. What I did was dremel out a trace of the intercooler power supply leading to what I believe is the negative side for all the fans if you open one up you'll see where they all wire in. I then hooked up the relay so when its triggered it will bridge this spot again. Then I hooked the usb cable to the relay, hooked it up to the ps3 powered it on with the controller, the fans come on, turn it off the fans go off. Mission accomplished. Easy, just had to find the parts.
