New & need direction
Hey i have had my ps3 since the first week they came out. I have no clue where to begin as far as jailbreaking my ps3 or even if that is what i need to do. My console has the most current updates on it & from what i see I think this isnt good for what i would like to do. I would like to backup my personal games onto a exernal HD & would prefer to be able to play them online as well as offline if possible however if that isnt possible for online play i can live without that. Please point me in the direction i need to go. I just dont want to buy or spend any more $ than i will have to. Any suggestions & is this even possible?

Welcome to the Forums.
![]() Without a Hardware flasher such as Progskeet, you would be able to downgrade to 3.55 for MFW/CFW that will allow all that you're seeking.. Search the forums for threads related Progskeet.

If you are on 4.00 firmware you are going to need http://progskeet.com.
There should be guides and user info here on the forum. Make sure you read all you can and know what you are getting in to before buying. |

From what the OP stated, he has the launch PS3 (NAND). E3 Flasher (currently NOR only) wouldn't be the right choice.

Sorry but only some games will have online capabilities using PSN alternatives as modded PS3's do not have access to PSN. For you to downgrade your PS3 you will need to choose one of the mentioned flasher and downgrade using the hardware method as there is not a software only method at this time.

so to sum it up...
You can downgrade to <3.55 using progskeet or another flasher..... Then you can play games with keys <3.55 search kmeaw compatibility list to find all the supported titles.... These games cannot be played online using psn(you need to be at the latest fimware to be able to connect to psn and hench that firmware isnt hacked) If the game supports system link(like linking multiplke systems in one room) you can then connect to xlink kay to play over the internet(keep in mind that the ps3 still thinks that youre doing system link.) So thats it then, coz you wont be able to install the new TB firmware, or the jbking firmware.... Dunno exactly why(something about syscall check?) Maybe in the future when tb or jbk release a new firmware with the apropriate syscall checks. But for now those are your only options
