wow 5 pages of geniuses and still nobody found out why it works.

Let me explain : it works only because MINI / PS1 games don't use EBOOT (as in, no native PS3 executable), that's right, no PS3 executable. The executable is the emulator, which is already in the PS3 firmware itself, so obviously properly signed.

So yeah, this will only work on MINI / PS1 / PS2 classics games, since the PS3 doesn't care about EDATs signing. Any PS3 native content will fail on 3.56+.

So the duplex full releases that install as a pkg and run from xmb won't work?

LOL .. thats not a thought that is why it works ..
try and install one of the Exetrimall Releases that have a modded eboot like
RE4 anything that he modded the eboot to will fail .
anything that he just decrypted/reencrypted the edat to free will work.
PS1/Minis/(anygames the eboot.bin dont need to check the rif for a decryption key)

so as long as he did not need to decrypted a sony file outside the edat it will work.. modding Eboot.bin/Selfs/SPRX will all make it fail

Ya, I have to agree. since there using the official pkg and just the edat file all those games will work. makes total sense. It´s a great find and gives some hope for things on official firmware.
would be really interesting if eboots signed with the drm keys still worked.
anyone tested that yet or one of the Duplex games? just to confirm.

Also obviously, GregoryRasputin because I like to teach you stuff : if you install a demo on a PS3 OFW and just transfer that way the EDAT unlock key from EXETrimALL (for example Lara Croft & GOL + its DLC), it will act as a full version. Can be done for all PSN games that can be bought from the XMB or that have an unlock key obviously, since the EBOOT doesn't need to be resigned/patch/decrypted.
