The rise and fall of the Sony empire !

I never created a thread here, cause i never need much. But i thought this was interesting read / to know. I seen a thread that had something like this but did not describe the bigger pitcher...

So as a updated and much more detailed this article seem to be .Just posted a few days before 2012. I thought some would like to read. I never seen this & thought it was interesting/good to know. As others may not have know about this either. Also the people who commented on this ,have a very similar outlook, as most of us here. They mention SONY & the betrayal of this beloved corporation ! If i created in wrong section ,my bad i never create threads here & only post my game mods

SONY will eventually fall, can this be true ?

With the recent report that @Sony sold all of its S-LCD interests to Samsung in return for $939 million another flare has been shot, warning that the former king of electronics remains on a downward spiral that has no end in sight. A lack of innovation and misguided decisions (not to mention a few natural disasters) have eroded at the foundation of the company while competitors like Samsung and LG have overtaken the electronics giant in markets such as televisions and mobile phones. It wasn’t that long ago that Sony products were considered the creme de la creme of consumer electronics, the pinnacle for technophiles the world over. What factors have caused this the company’s slide into mediocrity? To answer that question, we need to take a look at Sony during its most successful period, the explosion of the ’80s and early ’90s.

It’s difficult to explain to people born after 1990 what kind of cultural impact Sony had during this time. Simply put, Sony was the Apple of its day, a company that released products that were the result of innovation being merged with everyday media consumption habits. When Sony unveiled the now-legendary Walkman in 1979, it fomented a revolution in the way people interacted with music. Buyers flocked in droves to retailers to get their hands on the device that would allow them to bring their music, in the form of analog cassette tapes, wherever they wanted. It was the must-have device of the decade, cementing the Sony brand in the mind of consumers as the name in electronics. Even when rival companies began churning out lower cost knockoffs, consumer demand for the Walkman remained high because consumers trusted the name. No matter the price, people would buy a device if it had the Sony name printed on it. Sony, not Apple, invented the extreme consumer dedication Cupertino now enjoys.

Following up on the Walkman craze of the ’80s, Sony once again changed the entire face of audio recording when it teamed up with Phillips to perfect the compact disc media format. CDs opened up a vast array of possibilities with the ability to give users a “master” copy of audio files as well as the convenience of being able to quickly select different tracks. The quality and amount of music that can be stored on a compact disc vastly outstripped the cassette tape, and once again thrust Sony into the forefront of media consumption innovation.

Howard Stringer, Sony’s CEO, will need to be replaced with someone who understands current and future market trends, and be able to cast vision for capitalizing on the ever-changing playing field that Sony is part of.
Exactly what I expressed in an other thread, his days on Sony are over, he is one of the people responsible for the bad taste everyone has from Sony.

Sony was great once...and it is no coincidence that the time when they were doing so well was the same time that they were fighting for fair use. I mean, if someone found a new use for one of their products in the 1990's, Sony would have been overjoyed. They would have added it to the next version and hired the person. Today they make the next version so it can't use the newly created feature and then they sue the person who made it.

A new CEO might be able to change some of this, but at this point, Sony has simply gone too far. Even if they did start making good products again, no one would trust that they were made well and no one would trust that the wonderful new features wouldn't simply be removed with a mandatory firmware update. By the time the public did start to come around, the sales would have been low for years and this new CEO would be out.

I hope you are right so maybe somebody can take is spot & make some sense ! Instead of sony making such a effort to only care for themselves they have tarnished there reputation & have ruined themselves & for the most part .I also believe this could be the end of the road of sonys rain !
************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
I used to buy everything from sony & 3 ps3s will be the last !
As long as they treat us the way they do ,i cant even bare to look at anymore Sony products when i go to the store & as much as i would like to buy some items i see. My mind tells me to pass it up .This has become very easy now. This is cause of there careless/forceful, ways. They have sent the wrong message to me & many others = Stay away from our products they are not yours ! This is enough to kill there rep ,as so much as everything else they do/do not do for the end user

SONY has ,forget one important thing = THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT ! Sony failed big time in the department ..

In addition to "the customer is always right", sony forgot one other very important rule of business..."the business exists because of the customers"...when you make your customers the enemy, the business can't exist (unless it is a monopoly like a cable company or a government).

Back in the '80's and '90's $ony was an A-brand and most of the competition (like Akai and Samsung) were B-brands. There were also a lot of electronics-stores that wanted to sell $ony products. But the world and time has changed, the quality difference between A- and B-brands isn't that big anymore and there are only a few big resellers for electronics. The big resellers don't care for a brand name, they only care for big profits.

PS3: My last $ony....

Yeah...I remember...I guess you can't teach a new dog new tricks...at least not if it is made by Sony. I might have actually considered getting one of those things if there were good custom firmwares for them. I am sure my cat would love to attack it.

Eh I think Apple is still worst....they patent any random thing they can think of and so others cant use it (some patents are very broad). And when a company is a little too close to the patent they sue... On Engadget the most I hear about Apple is that that have sued another company, or have have another patent....

There are other companies that take up on the same strategy.....But I hate Apple the most. Sony is probably doing the same with other companies at the same time they are suing customers....

I remember first getting a PS1, it was the only system I played on even though I had the other consoles of the current and previous generations of systems. Same thing happened with the PS2 when it came out the only Thing I played was the PS2 and occasionally Conker's bad fur day on N64.

Now the PS3 came out and I have to admit at first I really did want one, wanted one so bad that I got one on the same week or two it came out. Brought it home and only game I had was Motorstorm, at the time I thought "Wow look at the graphics look at the game play, this is going to be an awesome console" but then I joined the PS3 scene about a year ago and got to know the things I wouldn't have known if I never joined. Sony suing and even imprisoning PS3 developers, etc..etc, this changed my thoughts around. Sure I still loved the console at the time but knowing the kind of company Sony was made me feel kind of confused and angry, betrayed. I loved that company not to long ago and even went as far as telling people Sony was the best, but now I don't know what to think. Maybe I should have never joined the scene but that wasn't a route I could think about as I come to think of the scene as a very large family, and not knowing these things would only mean I would continue to like Sony on pure bias and ignorance. I now think of Sony as a corrupt company and they have no thought for the consumers/customers. This game they are playing is a dangerous one and a company as big as they are, having done what they have in the past to get to the top, I figure would know not to play this game....
