ok I have my first purchased sony ps3 on the way! its a used slim! modle 2501A

I am familiar with soft mods, I have used wanikoko and hermes for other systems!

This looks like a good place to start as a new ps3 modder to get some questions down

1 Newer games such as elder scrolls skyrim , mw3, bf3, still dont work yet correct?

2 I read we are waiting for a 4.0 firmware crack?
so 3.55 is the furthest we have gone so far?

3 are psx ps2 games backward compatiable?
4 psx or n64 emulators out?

5 Is there a thread that will list the working games out?

6 I can download games straight from ps3 network and play online with softmods? or do i download iso files from bit torrents? and most importantly does it work online?

7 do retail disc still work? and are they required for these back up launcherS?

1. Yes and no. Yes for TB and JB King. No for all other MFW.

2. Kakarato is working on a HEN with NO backup manager support. 3.55 MFW is the highest with backup support.

3. PSX, yes. PS2 not without a PS3 with the Emotion Chip or Software Emulator in later phat PS3's

4. No N64 emu

thanks so much, now when it says it says it needs disc that means any disc right?or it has to be just a iso back up dvd ?


and is skyrim working? that is one of the most anticipated games to me thanks again

When launching a game from your HDD, it has to be an original PS3 disc. The disc can be any disc, but it has to be original (no burned discs).

To answer your questions:

1. Skyrim (and the games you listed) are not working on 3.55. Games which require 3.60 firmware and above will not work AT ALL.

2. Currently we do not know anyone who is actually working on a 3.60+ CFW. We do now that devs like KaKararoto are working on solutions for people who are stuck on 3.60+ OFW.

3. You can play PSX games, but support is very limited. PS2 games only work on Backwards Compatible PS3 models, which can't be obtained from stores.

4. There is no N64 emulator as of yet.

6. You cannot be online when on 3.55 or below. There is no way you can play online with backups. If you want to play online, you will have to be on the latest firmware and play off of original discs.

damn i wana be able to play homebrew and emulators so bad at the same time as skyrim, and mwf3 idk what to do, on question that might help

is there anyway to get my 3.5" sata 5400rpm 2tb samsung hd to work on this ps3?

breaking it down or even externally?
