Can you do the following with CFW?

Hi all,

So I am a really big n00b with consoles, I had a some cartridge consoles, a Sega and a PS1 and nothing since then - just my PC.

I am considering getting a PS3, I am just wondering whether it will be possible to run PS1 / PS2 games on the PS3 with CFW?
I still have some of my PS1 games although the discs are badly scratched, if I managed to get an ISO of the game would I be able to play it? Would I possibly need to burn it to a CD or could I run it off an external / the internal drive?

Also does the same apply to PS2 games (same with the PS1 games).

Also I know I will not be able to use the PSN if I have a CFW on my PS3, do I lose any other features? Like not being able to play Blue Ray movies (off the disc), or anything of that sort?

Thanks

Hello and Welcome to the Forums.

If you get a PS3 with PS2 support (PHATS), you could look into the Cobra Dongle or here: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php...ght=swap+magic

I still have some of my PS1 games although the discs are badly scratched, if I managed to get an ISO of the game would I be able to play it?
via multiMAN Backup manager disc only or with ONE by @CrashSerious :

With disc for the above options.
Off of HDD with Cobra Dongle.

I have read some movies not working without a firmware update, I can't remember which movies they were. You can do a search about that in the forums.

I see, thanks a lot.

So another quick question relating to the actual PS3, is it possible to run HDMI for your video (I will be using it on my PC monitor which has no speakers) and then use the AV multi just for the audio.

Will the PS3 allow you to make use of both HDMI and the AV multi at the same time?

Thanks

I have another quick question. Would I be able to play PS2 games with cfw 3.55 and without having to use swap magic...

Would it work if I were to run it off the disc (original disc and / or self burned disc)? Obviously provided it is one of the ps2 compatible ps3's (60gb pal ps3).

Thanks :-D

If you have the Cobra dongle you can play PS2 without SwapMagic either through HDD or through backup discs. If you do not have Cobra you only have the option of SwapMagic which you will need an HDD that can be read by an elf loaded through SwapMagic.

I would recommend a CECHA00, CECHA01, or a CECHA12 on 3.55 or below. I also recommend you get a Cobra USB for playing PS2 and PS1 ISOs/BINs. CECHAXXs have the highest PS2 compatability rate (99%) due to it having BOTH the PS2 CPU and the PS2 GPU. Although these consoles are NTSC consoles, they will work perfectly with any PAL setup. I know from experience. Just make sure to use HDMI.

This is correct. I own both a 60gb NTSC launch PS3 and a 60gb PAL launch PS3 and considering the PAL 60gb is trying to emulate the missing PS2 CPU chip it does a very good job but if you can as iwasaperson says, definetly try your best to get a CECHA containing both PS2 CPU and GPU chips.

Hmm, if I had to get an NTSC PS3 60GB then I would need to import one as I stay in South Africa so we use PAL PS3's.

Any idea where I can safely purchase a PS3 60GB which runs 3.55 or lower? NTSC one?
