Not worth it. You can EASILY get a brand new Slim (even a 320gb) with hackable firmware.

All brand new 120 and 250GB will have 3.41 or lower.
As for the 320GB ones, check for the ones bundled with a game. They will usually have the same firmware as the game requires (e.g 3.50 for GT5, 3.42 for Black Ops, etc).
Avoid the Move bundles and the 160GB ones. Although you can check the 160GB if the retailer lets you open boxes (I did it a few weeks ago). Look for the date code on the bottom sticker of the PS3. If it says 0C or 0D, it's hackable. If it says 1A, it might but not 100% sure. 1B is definitely not hackable.
Lastly avoid the CECH-3000 model, these are definitely unhackable.

That's it. Don't buy an used PS3 for the price of a new one.

So you're saying that you purchased one of these debugging units for $70 and he actually wanted to sell it to you for $30?:

Pics or GTFO.

Also even if you do provide pics with that exact PS3 model I still no way in hell would believe you that you got it for that price and your friend must be a complete retard if he wanted to sell you a PS3 debugging station (a pre-3.55 60gb one at that) for $30.

LOL at this.

Except brand new ones are not backward compatible, if your going to spend money of any kind on a ps3 it "should" be BC or else your basically just throwing money away on something that only does 1 thing. Whether it's hackable or not it does not matter. And make sure it has 4 usb slots...not 3 or less. I saw a lot of new ones that don't even have usb slots. In fact if they only have 3 or less then you won't be able to do anything to it. But you are right about the pricing....there is no way a old 60gb model can be the same price as a goddamn new one...that is outrageous. Whoever is selling it is ripping people off.
