Refusal to boot into service mode
Hello,
I am stuck in the downgrading process. I have flashed my NOR after patching it. When I start the PS3, I get the regular message about connecting the controller and pressing the PS button. Next, I copied Lv2diag.self by jaicrab and PS3UPDAT.PUP by Kmeaw on the root of a flash drive formatted FAT32. I inserted in the right-most USB drive of the PS3. However, when I start the console, I still get the message Connect controller via usb and press the PS button. I tried 3 usb drives already but nothing happens so far. |

Seems like you forgot the part where you use a dongle to trigger service mode :P
EDIT : DO NOT install Kmeaw or you will brick! You should already know this, after downgrading a console you must use a CFW with lv1 checks patched.

That's not correct. Even OFW 3.55 will work just fine. Apparently the syscon check is only performed during the update process, that's why you need core_os on your nor to be patched. At least this is true for my console.

I guess I followed the instructions too blindly :P
"Turn off the PS3 console as we will now place it in Factory/Service mode. Copy these files to the ROOT (not subforulder!) of USB Mass Storage Device-: **WARNING: Make sure that this is a USB stick formatted to FAT 32. DO NOT use your MP3 player, phone, or anything except a USB stick as the timings are crucial for the downgrading process! If your having issues, we recommend you reformat your pen drive/usb drive with THIS tool. Rofl, indeed. Anyway you need a device (jailbreak dongle or whatever can be used for jailbreaking) that supports service mode. Use it to trigger service mode with the normal jailbreak sequence and proceed to update.
That said I'm 100% sure someone tried to flash Kmeaw after downgrading and bricked their console.
