ps3 ofw/cfw wont install
hi i have been googling and reading all day now and i am having a lot of trouble finding any relevant info.
i decided today to update my slim from 3.41 jb(with ti-84) to rebug 3.55.2. so i read up and most guides say to go to 3.55ofw first(got here from ps3hax). okay so i tried but got a copy error. i figured it was a file permissions thing so i installed multiman(cuz i think it has a built in fixer). so now the install works and i am on ofw 3.55. so i try to install through the xmb the rebug pup(got from rebug.me and renamed PS3UPDAT.PUP) and it says no applicable update. okay, just use the recovery, right? wrong. it says it cant find an applicable update either. so i try to reinstall the ofw again just to make sure it installed correctly but it wont let me do that either. sometimes it gets an error and says a serious error has occured please contact customer support, but most times it just says no applicable update. i searched the error code but all posts i found were for cfw installs but i only ever got the serious error msg when i tried ofw, when i try cfw it always says no applicable update blah blah. so now im stuck, i am on ofw and have no clue what to do now. i have tried all the other options in the recovery menu, reformatted and reset the system, so there is nothing on my hdd anymore(didnt have that much stuff to lose so it is okay). i have found nobody with this same problem though. most people sort it out by just trying again or dlding a new pup somewhere else but i have tried 3 different ofw sources and rebug and kmeaw and none are found. i have been at it all day and must have booted to recovery 50 times by now. x:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP is the location(it worked once so it is right). i have never used a spoofer or been on psn if that matters. please, any help would be so great. i want to be as clear as possible so i apologize if i am vomiting words here, i just know how frustrating it can be to help when too little info is given. i am really regretting my decision, jb on each boot wasnt that bad... i had a working machine that played my movies and emulators just fine, but i just had to rock the boat. Thank you in advance Last edited by partykid; 01-10-2012 at 03:33 AM. |

If it isn't below 3.55, then it's impossible at this point in time ( Not including Hardware methods ). |

As for the guy with the problem i reccomend to check md5 on pc, remove it from pc port , enter again in same port, check md5 .. if they are the same try it again from recovery in ps3 . I had this problem too but after all those retries this thing led me to good way |

yes i am on 3.55 and the recovery menu asked for 3.55 or above
okay i checked one of the pups md5 in a checker on different ports and i get the same md5. i have used 3 different fat32 usb devices, 2 flash disks(both are cruzer micro but different models, have never had an issue with either) and an external hdd(western digital). i was able to install pkg files from them before the update and did my the update from one of them. the md5 i get for the ofw is CA595AD9F3AF8F1491D9C9B6921A8C61 on 2 seperate downloads from different places. i didnt check the cfw but if i cant even reinstall the ofw that doesnt really matter at this point. what did you use to fix? ofw or cfw? i have tried so many pups so many times im beginning to lose my mind. i am not a noob so this is doubly frustrating because i know exactly what im "supposed" to do and how it is "supposed" to work. im just going to throw this out there too, when i did the update i left the room until it was finished, when i came back it was already at the xmb so i figured everything went fine, maybe i missed something??(wow, that did sound a bit noobish) i know i can still downgrade(probably, if it lets me) with a modified pup in service mode, but i shouldnt have to. got the "a serious error has occured" again the code is 8002f2bf Last edited by partykid; 01-10-2012 at 11:32 AM. |

Can you explain this part a bit better:
(you installed the 3.55 FW from 3.41 XMB?)

edit: omg, i am typing right now on one screen and pressing start+select on the other screen over and over(in recovery menu) and it worked on like the 20th try, it is installing the ofw now. i guess i will have to try this with a cfw now edit some more: booyahcasha it is installing rebug right now 1st try. moral of the story: the ps3 is stupid and you have to tell it what to do a thousand times. thank all of you for your time. well then maybe it is just too smart for its own good... i was just trying to make light of what turned into a very frustrating day.
and the md5 didnt change when the usb was removed and replaced as i said in my previous post so our problems were different. all of my downloads were rars so there is already a hash check of the archived file after download(not the same as md5 but still a check), obviously if the extraction went sideways then i might get a mismatch but that is a very rare case. in any case it is all better now, i am on rebug and am able to install pkg's thanx again to everyone for their time, this thread may be closed.
