ive bought a "gpu" ati hd5850 for 330 euro just when it was released,
so yeah i am a graphic whore, but gameplay do matter to me and story wise, for me graphics comes first but gameplay is closely behind, yep i still play some good old quake or unreal or doom, ; and it still is fun to play;Or even some good old snes games. But, i remember the first time i played Half-Life 2, it was amazing, Awesome graphics, physx, sounds, gameplay, and it had a Awesome story, and the face expressions where like mmMMMMMmm, or when doom 3 was released, drewl,,,,, i am still waiting for half-life 3 and doom 4 I am just a PC freak that likes high end graphics and decent gameplay with a good story that drives the game, and i play most likely FPS games PC = fps and more fps ![]() Ps3 = racing and most action games/fighting Last edited by EmBoLa.be; 01-10-2012 at 01:49 AM. |

Of course it depends on the game. Portal and Portal 2 wouldn't be the same thing without the graphics, but then again, Final Fantasy VII takes the other way around, and with its imperfections it culminates in a great game. Not to mention the oldies such as tetris and super mario.

Graphics are, to me, only important if the game is setting up an overall experience. For example, Flower wouldn't be nearly as effective if not for the beautiful graphics, whereas, imo, FPS games need only average graphics as long as the game is fun to play.
Always amuses me when this debate comes up, no-one ever mentions game soundtracks in relation to important elements. When a game has a great soundtrack it can raise the whole game up just as much as graphics and is as important for creating an atmosphere despite being regularly overlooked as an important part of the experience. |

Graphics are very important to me. Immersion is possible with bad graphics, but good graphics certainly help.
In addition to this, draw distance is a part of good graphics, and can change the whole nature of the game. On the PS3, Fallout New Vegas is almost all close-combat. By the time you can see the enemy through a sniper scope, they can generally see you. On PC, you can pick targets off from far, far away...all of a sudden, deathclaws are downright harmless. Draw distance can also completely destroy immersion. If you are walking along and suddenly a large tree appears 20 feet in front of you, any immersion that the game has created evaporates instantly (unless it is meant to be a magic tree that actually did just materialize). Ever go to the top of a tower in GTA4 and have fun picking off pedestrians with a sniper rifle? Not if you played the PS3 or 360 version...the streets are empty! |

while I agree that gfx should be pushed, I find it heartbreaking when they are pushed so hard that the rest of the game suffers. the time spent on making games pretty for a given system takes away the time that would be better spent concentrating on making the game stable. frame rate drops and buggy games are an unacceptable occurance in consoles IMO.
it should be a case of a. make game stable b. improve gfx c. test for stability and adjust as necessary d. release instead, what we see is a. make game pretty b. release game c. spend months releasing shoddy patches that still don't fix issues comparing games of a genre to modern games, final fantasy series on the ps1 was an awesome. jump to the ps2 with better graphics and the game suffered. jump again to the ps3 where graphics were pushed even further and again, the game suffered (maybe irreversibly). some game genres like fighters can afford to concentrate on gfx as the formula for fighters is generic racers also are very generic and the gfx are a major part of the game to add realism etc so should continue to push them forward. grid IMO has spot on gfx and the game play is still awesome/game long enough multiplayer shooters like cod/bf etc should concentrate on stability before gfx always. what's the point of a heavy online game that is plagued by problems? single player, I would prefer a longer campaign than a few more pretty explosions role playing games do not matter to me about how pretty they are as long as they are stable. skyrim/fallout should have concentrated on stability over looks but doing that would lose sales on certain systems as ps3 would not be anywhere near the same gfx wise as the Xbox counterpart and Sony wouldn't want that as people may choose a rivals system over theirs. I chose depends on the game

I voted "Graphics don't matter" but I will elaborate.
I honestly don't care about graphics as soon as my eyes don't hurt after 30 mins like it used to when I played PS2 games on HDTV (everyone knows how SD console graphics on HDTV looks like), which is the main reason I got a CECHA imported from the US (can now play PS2 for hours without eye hurting thanks to upscaling and smoothing :D). I do like good graphics but they're not important to me. That said, the games I play mostly don't need good graphics to be good. I read the thread a bit and I've been thinking for some genres, graphics probably do matter (I'm a RPG eater and I'm looking for content, gameplay, good storyline etc). Sadly, as @japsander mentioned above, it seems the standards met by devs on their games regarding gameplay are getting lower and lower for a lot of games (not all of them obviously), so I sometimes enjoy playing retro games more than actual PS3 games.

Graphics
I really like to play games in HD or 3D cause its just another type of feeling the game. With HD its just beautiful to play and look at the world, all the things.. I own PC,PS3,PSP and NDS. I care about graphics only on PC and PS3. PS3 cant be upgraded for better performance but i dont care i like it how it is.
