That awkward moment when it's cheaper to make a trip to the US to buy the item you want than buying it in your own country.

EXACTLY!

PS3 40GB (USA) 399(U$) + 4,00 (U$ airmail) (VAT INCLUDED)= 311,5 €
PS3 40GB (EUR) 399(€) + 2,70 (€ airmail) (VAT INCLUDED)= 401,7 €
same goes for games...

What makes them think that I'm gonna buy anything from european stores?
With 90,7 € I can buy like 2-3 games or now a whole PSP...

Somebody should thell them that U$399 /= 399€, ESPECIALLY FOR PSN that there are no physical/taxes/currency issues...

There are 16 countries whose currency are much more trusted than the US's. This includes Australia and the United Kingdom.

One of the reasons why Sony charges so much in these countries is because they can. We will still pay for these items. The PS3 has been much more expensive in Australia than in the US even though the AUD is stronger than the USD. There could be other factors such as our minimum wage being double yours.

Maybe at one point, but now it's not backed by "precious metal". Now it's just paper with a "it's worth this much" stamp. America was robbed by the banking institutions. What happened to all the gold and silver that used to back "our" money? Had to quote "our" because it is an illusion. As of posting this $1 usd = .7727 euro
Not trying to bring politics into it...again.... but I had to post about this after reading.

Price

the price of the psp in the uk comes down too how much someone is willing to pay for it. If they slap a price tag with an extra £90 on it and people still buy it. well blame the people who accepted the price hike and still thought it was good enough to buy. Me personaly wouldnt pay that, maybe would asses it as £120 device but would buy it, if priced at £70. So all the chums that paid for this over priced item deserve to be screwed by apple and good luck lol

Posting a FAT PS3 from US to Europe costs $75, not $4 (I know because I got my CECHA imported from the US :P). Also by making a trip there meant travelling there, spending one or two nights at the hotel etc... Of course this only applies to Brazil with their horrendous taxes.
That sayd, even with $75 shipping it was still cheaper to get the PS3 from the US back then... lol. However for the PS3 there is a region lock for DVDs, Blu-rays and PS1 games (and region lock is only here to make it not worth it for the customers to get the PS3 imported while paying cheaper, so that they can charge more on certain countries).

I wanted to by this system when I first saw it announced. There are a lot of features I like that are worth the consumers time to purchase it. However, in the end the $ for what you get is unjustifiable. The fact you can't even change out the battery with the system being priced that high is borderline theft to the consumer; add to that the high price of proprietary memory and most titles priced higher than 3DS top line software makes this a hard sell for Sony. So like when the 3DS launched, I shall wait and see what happens; as I believe analysts are correct within the first 6 months a price drop is going to occur as most people are happy with their current handhelds and smart phones/tablets.

i guess the term is world reserve currency i recently became familiar with this...

i want a vita so bad i really really do is it time to sell a kidney? Thing is i will more than likely like it modded/hacked somehow so i wouldnt ever update at first which would be a bummer...i am not a baller cant afford two...lol reminds me of when i placed the ps3 in a drawer when updates would take other os today now look what we can do!

its a shame this constant update world where we can't just rollback at will it really is dumb and restrictive..

Typical American. Clearly has no idea on foreign currency or anything else that doesnt happen in the US.

Like people have already said, here in the UK we just get taxed to the hilt. I'll still be buying the PS Vita anyway.
