I'm wondering if there is anyone on this site who has experience with using a hardware-based hack to downgrade a FAT PS3 (current FW 3.60). If there are an users with such experience, do you have any recommendations?

I am toying with the idea, but at the moment, I know blissfully little about what the undertaking would entail. I've Googled it, seen a few YouTube videos about it, but I would like to converse with someone who has actual experience in hardware modding the FAT PS3.

Is it worth the effort? Is there a decent modchip/hardware exploit for the PS3, or am I better simply exercising my patience, and waiting for the day when some mythical line of code will undo the damage caused by the 3.60 update?

I have not done it, but I have no problem doing hardware mods, or using a soldering iron and I can say hand on heart that I would not do it as the effort and result does not equal the money and time spent as for only a few more £'s you can get another console.

It is worth it if you really want to.... umm.... play backups. Or... change your boot animation. Then go for it!

I would wait for Kak's 4.0 JB.

I suppose really the question is whether or not a 4.0 hack will ever come. Obviously, it's much easier to just do a software hack than to actually open up the PS3 (I've done a PS2, but the PS3 just looks a whole hell of a lot worse). If a 4.0 CFW is actually in the foreseeable future I'll gladly wait for that, but I've been out of the PS3 hacking scene for a while and I don't know if I should expect a 3.55 CFW to materialize or not.
