On CFW you can install Package Files (Pkg. files)
and on OFW you cannot. Also you can run homebrew, emulators and backup copies from multiMAN on CFW. On OFW you can only run legitimate games (physical discs). CFW goes up to 3.55. OFW is in 4.00 right now and soon to launch 4.01 OFW. OFW is made by Sony. CFW by Kmeaw, Rebug, Rogero, etc. True Blue grants you access to most of the 3.6+ games on CFW (games that require 3.6 and above firmwares), whereas in Kmeaw you cannot play them. Only a bunch of games have fixes for Kmeaw (without a dongle). I hope that clears out what are the differences between the two. [Edit] You can use Comgenie's Awesome Filemanager to copy games between your PS3 and any USB (FAT32) connected external drives. Check it out here: http://www.pshomebrew.net/wiki/Comge...e_File_Manager I never used FTP to copy games from my PS3 to my PC, but it is possible with the integrated file manager from multiMAN. Also if you don't have a BD drive on your PS3, you cannot play certain games, since they require to have a disc inside to launch them. [Edit] By the way, you can simply use multiMAN (Games menu) and copy games to a connected external HDD (FAT32) and multiMAN will automatically split the game files if they are over 4gb in size. But you can read all about that in this thread: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=24701 Also a "Like" would be nice after all these explanations ![]() Thanks. Yes, you can launch most games from external HDD or internal HDD. Unless they are too recent. If you decide to copy the games to internal HDD you can launch them from there. Say that you have a game with a file bigger than 4gb,you have to split that file using a tool such as PS3 Splitter: http://ps3.dashhacks.com/downloads/ps3splitter-1151. And then you can launch that game by copying it to the PS3. MultiMAN joins the splitted file and the game stays on your internal HDD. Most games don't have an unique file with over 4gb, but those who do have to be splitted and copied to internal. There's another way, but I can't recall right now. Just try it out and soon you'll find out. Last edited by rafa11; 01-24-2012 at 06:06 AM. |

i would recommend rebug cfw because they are the only ones constantly updating an dworking on cfw so far... also its got a lot of nice debug feautures where you can unlock stuff like atrac and wme, usualy you need a connection to the psn for that!
so far all games i played worked for me and there is nearly allways a patch for higher games to play on 3.55, in my opinion the trueblue sh!t is just a scam, i mean there are not that many new games then just get a ofw ps3 and buy the games so you have more from youre money, think about it, with next firmware release you may need a new dongle or its just doesnt work at all then

CFW will allow you to play games that are for 3.55 or lower natively (pop disc in an play).
Currently Custom Firmware can play 3.55 or lower games from either internal or external hard-drive (depending on the games compatibility). CFW can play certain 3.55+ games with eboot fixes (download fix replace and play). More 3.55+ games can be played with use of a piece of hardware called a dongle, specifically the "True Blue" dongle. OFW is Official Firmware brought by Sony and doesn't allow things like homebrew and backups. CFW is Custom Firmware or otherwise known as MFW or Modified Firmware is Sony's 3.55 OFW exploited and altered to allow such things as homebrew and the ability to backup and run backups, and OtherOS since Sony removed it in an earlier firmware. Now I am against the True Blue and will not recommend it to anyone. Having said that you do what yo want to. Just to state, the True Blue DOES NOT allow you to play ALL new games. If you have the money you can turn to the best alternative that many of us here do/use. Buy a second PS3, one on CFW and one on the latest OFW. That way you can still play your backups and play the latest games and online to boot. CAN'T go online with True Blue by the way. And before you ask about playing backups online, NO you can't play backups online, and this should never be possible and currently isn't and I hope it stays that way.

![]() So you think because someone owns games while installing CFW that he/she will never copy a downloaded game onto their system? kelevra has every tool he needs to start playing pirated games, and he can thank everyone in this thread for that... only think left to do @kelevra , is to get an external hd to store all those legal backups that you will be downl... err I mean copying from your discs
