Longer answer - yes if you update your PS3 to 3.55, put CFW on it and then rip your ORIGINAL GAMES on your PC with a blu-ray reader or your friends PS3 and then copy them on an external drive formatted in FAT32 or FTP them from your PC to your PS3's internal drive. |

Hi,
I am new to the PS3 but have some experience with the 360 and JTAG hacks. I have followed this tutorial (using the files linked) and succeeded in upgrading to OFW 3.55 and the 3.55CFW. I now see */app_home/PS3_GAME/ and *Install Package Files under the Games tab on the main PS3 menu (I guess called XMB). I cannot get the *Install Package Files function to recognize any of the packages I have tried however. I am using the same SD card (formatted to FAT32) I used for the firmware upgrades and have deleted the files from it with each step. I have tried the Multiman pkg linked in this tutorial as well as the one linked in the downloads section of ps3hax.net. I have tried having just the pkg at the root of the SD card, the pkg and config file at the root, and all manner of other combinations. In case any of this matters, the system is a 60GB fat that was on 3.00 prior to upgrading to OFW 3.55 and then cfw 3.55. The system is not connected to the internet currently. It is running a larger hard drive with all of my data successfully restored from the original 60gb (again, using this same SD card). I still have the original hard drive if for some reason I need to reinstall it to get this to work. What am I doing wrong? I would try another storage device but I don't own any and am perplexed as to how the SD would work for the firmware installs but not for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and sorry if this is a complete noob issue. ***Update*** I found an old SD to USB adapter in my searches around the house for a USB drive. I connected the SD through this adapter and was able to install multiman. Does the cfw alter the way the PS3 recognizes its card reader or is it just that the *Package Installer app doesn't search SD media? Either way I am proceeding with the tutorial. I hope this helps anyone else who encounters similar issues. Last edited by Ewok; 01-26-2012 at 12:02 PM. Reason: Found a possible solution |
