FW 3.55 is a year old...

some new games like Uncharted 3 BF3 are cracked for use on CFW 3.55, for others you need a dongle because some greedy so called devs like to protect "their" work with DRM and some games (like Batman Arkham city) are still not playable on a hacked console...

I hate bothering people asking questions but I like to get to know devices I'm or will be using, so there's another thing. A friend of mine told me her boyfriend's xbox wouldn't play a non original DVD movie, is this true? when jailbroken does a PS3 play non originals DVD's and Blu-ray discs?

You should be able to play backups of any bluray or DVD as long as you have a properly made backup, I say this because some Blurays and/or DVDs have copy protection and might prevent a proper backup. You will be able to with custom firmware play any original game that is for firmware 3.55 and lower, backups of 3.55 games will also work. 3.56+ games that have fixes for them will also be playable, getting a dongle like TB is a crap solution but I will mention it because it is a solution (I do not recommend getting one). TB will give you a wider range of games (some NOT all) that require 3.56+ playable on 3.55 CFW. You will not be able to play online by using PSN but there is a solution that is similar to xbox's xbconnect that will allow you to play online using the lan feature in multiplayer games. For the official PSN and CFW me personally want them to never come together as online cheaters are lamers and do not deserve to play online.
