diagnosing blu ray

well, a friend of mine borught in a ps3 with busted blu ray drive, but as the most common problems are two, i can't get which one of em is, as i have no experience in this field. The blu ray shows the blue light when i insert a game disk, but it won't show any icon... i'm going to try with some other disc, like cd or dvd... But what's the problem, in your opinion? Busted lens or broken logic board?
